It is free, If you have the slim PS2. Otherwise, you pay a one-off £20 fee for the network adaptor.
Anyway, there are three ways: 1) Connect it straight to the modem with a direct port ethernet cable. (my current setup) 2) Connect to a router, also with a direct port ethernet cable. The router has to be directly connected to the modem, though. 3) Connect it to a spare ethernet port in your computer, using a crossover cable, as long as the computer is connected to the internet in some way (obviously). I'm not too sure If this works for wireless networks, but you can have a go. Oh, and you need broadband. Most games use gamespy, but some you'll actually need a Central Station handle for. Go to: www.yourgamingname.com once you've got it all set up. This will give you your CS Handle. |

Well, the best way is to use a router, becuase there's no firewall to deal with, and your'e not stealing the internet from your flatmate/annoying little tween/parents.
Oh, and this is the ONLY way to play through dial-up. To share a connection through your computer, you need an ethernet crossover cable, and a dual-port ethernet card. Put the crossover from the computer to the playstation, and a direct port ethernet cable form the card to the modem. Obviously, you don't need the second cable for dial-up, just connect as usual and you should be able to play. If you have any firewall problems, your game manual should tell you which ports to open. |
