I honestly prefer the Mac OS in a lot of ways, but I rarely end up using it much. If I had the choice I'd have both a Windows box and a Mac box, but I don't.

I'd also like to learn Linux one of these days, but lazy.

I hear the Mac OS has a lot of the features that Windows Vista has for a while now. At college I have to use Solaris OS, which is based off UNIX.

Other way around, Vista's 3D interface and **** is directly taken from Mac.

In fact, Bill Gatus of Borg was 'inspired' by an early version of Mac OS to create Windows.

Anyways, I have yet to use a Mac professionally, so I can't pass proper judgment.

I've mostly used the Windows OS and only have used the Mac OS properly for the first time about 6 months ago. I thought personally that it was better than the Windows OS and am quite pleased that Vista has 'borrowed' some of the features although given the choice I would just have the Mac.

A friend of mine has the G4 and we've compared -- basically we don't really know, we've only ever used the same OS though out our lives. But, the 3D and interactive displays do seemed to be ripped by Apple, but there not innocent.

Apple filed a claim that Microsoft ripped the whole structure of their OS, but only to pull out after being caught showing look a like designs to a earlier OS from a system that no longer exists, which it's name I can't re-call. Most of this was kept quite, only the main outline from the court case in 1985. (Or something like this, my memory's a bit sketchy)

"1985 (Windows) Apple sued Microsoft over Windows 1.0 ( out of court settlement) Apple allowed Microsoft to lease Macintosh OS. In the contract (Microsoft put in) they would be able to copy future versions of the Mac."

"1988 (Windows) Apple sued Microsoft over Windows 2.0 (lost, then appeals, out of court settlement in 1997) Microsoft paid ??? to Apple, brought Apple stock, and continued making software for the Macintosh."

What is with them? Anyways, most loose information can be found here www.jmusheneaux.com

Apple and Microsoft actually both ripped most of their best features off from an early operating system created by Xerox. If there were ever a case of a company with a ****load of brilliant ideas but overwhelmingly ****ty management, that'd be it.

Ahh thanks, I couldn't remember the name. Well, it sounds familiar anyway, I was hardly alive to witness these accounts anyways xD

I still think it's ****ing awesome that you can run different operating systems on a Mac now, so like Dave, I'd love to buy a Mac and mess with both OSX and Vista Aero. Aesthetically, Vista is now ftw.

I've used Mac OS my whole life. I don't really have a problem with Windows but when I have to use them in the computer lab at school, I realize how much I like Mac OS. In high school my friends and I made a movie for one of our classes. I had absolutely no problem editing the movie and adding sound and effects with iMovie HD. Other people in the class had big editing problems with some of the video editors for Windows. Macs are notorious for having very good video editing with Final Cut Pro and Shake.

I prefer Macs. I'd use Linux too. if I knew more about it, but I'm fine just using them on campus. Macs are normally for people who don't care to tinker with the machine. If you want a mac, you have to buy the same hardware that comes with it. With winblows and Linux, you're allowed to look under the box. Thankfully, the prepackaged computer that comes with your Mac OS is already very good.

And I second this: http://xvsxp.com/

windows xp pro sp2 for the win! seriously, if you are moderately careful and dont treat your security with stupidity you will be absolutely FINE. if you like not being able to play your favorite computer games, though, go and get yourself a mac.

My favourite computer games are cross-platform, but that's a moot point anyway since modern Macs, being Intel-based, can run Windows for those who absolutely have to have it.

don't really know what the actual practical differences are between them, but Windows has always been great for me. the competition between the two seems a little blown out of proportion.

How do you know if a computer game on a mac is good?

You've played the same game 5 years ago on a PC

Don't be hitting on macs for there, not too good gaming qualities. They are very good computers in return.
