I'm looking for an easy-to-use, free, downloadable video editor. I've got a drama performance on Thursday, and when the camera man gets the video file to me, I want to be able to take out chunks, isolate them into their own files ( with audio and all ), and put them onto YouTube or something.
I'm not very technical-savvy, though, so something very easy to handle would be preferable. Any suggestions? |

If you are on Windows you can always just use Windows Movie Maker. Personally good sir, I would recommend trying a demo of some sort of decent software. I prefer Apple Final Cut (Mac) and Adobe Premiere Pro (PC), but I know many people that swear by Avid software or perhaps even Sony Vegas. If you at all see yourself ever doing more video, I would say it would be wise to just bite the bullet and look into learning some real software. You will thank yourself as you get into it more that you didn't start on an inferior or crippled system. It really isn't that hard, the interface may seem confusing at first but it is all very logical. You may not need something powerful now, but you may as well learn on something solid.
There are all sorts of small, freeware/shareware programs out there to do what you are looking for. Some of them are good, some of them are crap, some of them are spyware. Honestly, there are too many to list and hell if I know which one is good. Something to perhaps check out is Avid Free DV (http://www.avid.com/products/freedv/index.asp), it is from Avid so I am guessing it is a solid piece of software. I have never been huge on Avid but it is industry standard out there and you know you are getting a decent piece of software. That is what I would do in your shoes. Good luck. |

Agreed even though its expensive (or free if downloaded) Premiere Pro is amazing, not that Windows Movie Maker (WMM) is bad since its suprisingly good for default software and for your situation I'd use WMM. Also Drift you link doesn't link to anything.
