I'm sorta curious about Vista as well, though i make it a rule not to buy new Tech. for a half a year to a year. Didnt buy PS2 untill 2003. Didnt buy XP until 2004. Yep i like to wait till all the bugs are worked out.

My cousin-in-law got Vista. Ever since he got it he said his PC's been ****ed up. He probably just doesn't know how to use a computer, but I still found it funny. I hear its still "buggy".

my dad just got a new labtob with Vista. he hates it so far because of the permission thing. ive got a question though: he's got a bunch of programs he needs to install on it that he has to use for work. howeverver they are all copied programs and he's having problems intsling them on Vista. He says it wont let him. So does anyone know how to get around this?
Note: these copied programs he wants on Vista worked on XP

I've considered buying Vista but I am not too sure as to whats different about it when looking at XP except for the fact that is has a different layout also the fact that there is lots of bugs with it still is making me wanna wait if I ever wished to purchase it.

We get a free Vista Business Edition from the university if we want it. sadly alot of people bitched and moaned about it on our DC++ hub so it put me off it a bit. Ill try it out soon i think, worst comes to the worst ill put it back to Windows XP.

They say the next big version of Windows will be released in about two years from now, according to some high-up Microsoft dude. Might as well wait for that one, I think.

Although it'll probably be Vista with a different look.

Ah, here it is. http://www.infoworld.com/article/07/...ollowup_1.html

Sumry: Release date for the next version of Windows (codename Vienna) is planned for the end of 2009, core features will include virtualization (buzzword) and stuff like that. Not expecting any major changes except that it'll be even more demanding on the system, but it'll probably be safer and such then Vista already claims it is.

Then again, the next generation processors will be more aimed towards speeding up virtualization and such, so it shouldn't be too bad on those. I think.

Anyways, I'll just save for a new computer before even considering getting any next version of Windows. XP works just fine for me, 2000 as well. 98 was faster on my computer (I've had all three so far), but in the end, the increased stability and such in XP made me do the final switch.

ive tried Vista Home Premium on my dad's new labtop and it works quite well and fast. i personaly havent encountered any problems with it yet. though its not really neccessary to have it right now for anyone intrested in upgrating in the near future (unless ur in need of a new computer and running on an old one), at least in my opinion. it works almost like XP but with a graphical update.

I've been running Vista since October (Initially as curiosity, but since January I'm forced to use it because Toshiba refuses to provide XP-compatible drivers for my video card on my laptop), and in the final analysis, I must regretably liken Vista to syphilis...except that with syphilis, you get to have some fun along the way; **** that should be able to run no problem fails inexplicably. (VLC Media Player randomly stopped working...I have all the codecs I always did, video just stopped working. Windows Media player crashes on attempt to load a video file. Coincidentally, this all started at or about the commercial release date for Vista, although per Micros~1, the evaluation version I got from them in October is good until June). All media players claim that I run out of physical memory when I try to play a DVD (1 GB RAM, if I could get XPee back on that sucker, I'd never have RAM problems. Too bad 1 GB is the bare minimum for Vista and SO-DIMMs are bloody expensive). Vista randomly hides anything that's saved to the Program Files tree. (You know all your P2P clients? Guess where they save all of your files? THAT'S RIGHT, Program Files. There's no rhyme or reason to what is accessible in Program Files and what isn't. Enjoy not knowing whether you'll ever be able to access that file you just saved, because apparently it's up to GOD. But that's not the best part. You know that 4 GB DVD image you saved under Progra~1? The one that Windows doesn't acknowledge exists in any way, shape or form? WELL THINK AGAIN! Check your free disk space! 4 GB less, what a coincidence! And the only way to get it back is to format.

If you like Vista, you'll LOVE swallowing wasp eggs! Just wait until those suckers hatch for some REAL fun. It's especially good if some of the wasp eggs get in your lungs.

Its true. a lot of XP programs, old stuff or whatever arent capatable with Vista for some reason, forcing u to find some other way to get around it. It sucks. This needs to be fixed somehow.

Interesting Vista article : http://www.viruslist.com/en/analysis?pubid=204791916

Written by Kaspersky Lab's virus analyst, Alisa Shevchenko.

My idea for how to redress this involves hurling Bill Gates into an active volcano.

Another interesting point is how most IT specialists agree on this point :

In the past, you always had a good reason for moving to a newer version of Windows (speed, stability, features, etc.). What's the use now? Not much. They took what Apple used for years and integrated it with XP, adding some security enhancements, although since those are mostly based on the security by obscurity theory, it's more of a bother than an "enhancement". But eh...

There's already an OS with Mac-like features available for x86 hardware. It's called Linux.

I'm thinking about getting Vista Home premium, but I'm going to wait a while. I might wait to get a new computer with it, since I don't think the computer I have right now has enough space to hold vista

My boyfriend's parents just bought a new computer with Vista. I haven't gotten a chance to check everything out and go through everything thoroughly but two things I noticed were:

1. Compatibility, just like XP when it was first released not much of anything is compatible with it. Errors right left and center, so if you're seriously considering Vista, hold off on it awhile.

2. It looks kinda pretty, a lot sleeker/techy.

Only if you enjoy having to go into the console every 5 minutes to get something done. Let alone when something doesn't work right away.

There are GUI ways to fix things in Linux, but most Linux users prefer a terminal window.
