So, I bought a laptop from HP and it came with Vista. I hate Vista, so I figured I'd downgrade (or in this case, upgrade) to XP. As I did so, I forgot about the drivers so my laptop's useless now.
I ordered a System Recovery CD from HP's site, but a friend's telling me that using it would make my problem even worse somehow. I don't see how it would, though, since it has all of the drivers I need to get my laptop running again. Any suggestions?

Although Im confused by what you mean by your drivers? XP has a good driver databse and a lot of the drivers are still in current usage. It should be possible just to overwrite vista with XP. |

Indeed. Install XP and it should be able to operate most of your computer (the important bits anyways). Next, update XP completely, and finally figure out for which devices you still need drivers. Most likely, it'll be for the motherboard and graphics card, and perhaps some smaller stuffs. But most likely those two, which can (read: should be) easily be found from either the manufacturer's website (HP) or the individual components' websites.

Agreed. My old old computer wouldn't start when I turned on the switch, so, being hormonal and angry, I punched it straight in the face. Turns out that the fan and hard drive started spinning. I did that from then on, and it always worked that way. Hit it in a certain spot.
