I'm trying to play FF8 on vista and when I click the ff8 icon it goes into the program but then the screen just stays black and doesn't do ****, so I always have to do ctrl+alt+del to cancel it and I've done this atleast 30 times changing settings. I've put the compatability to windows xp clicking properties, I've downloaded some random ff patches, I've went o ff8config.exe and put it to renderer - I've done so many things and it still produces the same result with a black screen. Someone help me out and make this game work on Vista on my laptop. It's an acer aspire 3680-2472 intel celeron m processor 520 (1.6 ghz 533 mhz fsb, 1mb l2cache, intel graphics media accelerator 950). I don't even know if these specifications matter but I just wanna play the damn game.

umm... humm... i'm no expert but i've had a few of these problems myself so im going to name a few of my solutions. ever think that maybe a program on your laptop is interfering with it the program. i mean like i play a few games on the pc as well but sometimes some programs need to be turned off(not deleted) in order for the game to fuction correctly. but that's probalby not it. did you read the owners manual that came with the game? it usually has every thing you might need to know on there. like a help section and something sorta similar to an FAQ.

lol I bought the game almost 7 years ago and all I got left through the hands of time are the 5 discs (installation cd, 4 game discs) so nah I don't have that. The game worked fine when I did it on windows 2000 and xp before but vista's being a bitch.

really? 7 years you say. well then i can't really help you out. it has been known that very many programs have not been able to work with Vista when people installed it. like my anti virus program. i would need to get a vista version of it to use it with vista. thats why i still have XP.

Vista's backwards compatibility with older software is, to say it lightly, ****. FF8 isn't the only 'older' game not working on Vista, there's a ton more of those. Best solution would be to set up a dual-boot with windows XP and Vista, imho.

IMO, don't get vista unless you know it'll work with your soft- and hard-ware, or until it's announced that it's fully fixed and works with everything. If you really must have your Vista, then as YopY said - dual boot fgj. |

You could always try looking for that, I wouldn't recommend it though what with the rumours of most places providing it - having it downloaded packed with Trojans and the like. So it probably would be easier to get a cheap XP pack (like the Home Edition), set it up for dual-boot and run it. Much safer. But I know some people did get the game to work on Vista without dual-booting it but even then they got to Disc II on VIII and the game stopped working completely no matter what they did.... think it was caused from a clash of sorts. Can't exactly remember sadly. That or you keep the disc for a few more years and wait for Microsoft to release another Windows one (Hyne forbid it be another fricking Vista...) and try it all over again. Personally... I wouldn't even bother trying to put it onto the computer/laptop with Vista set up, from what I've seen it's just caused utter havoc with the game and I wouldn't let that system ruin my favorite Final Fantasy.
