Who shall win the new format war?
Its pretty hard to say, they seem to keep switching places. Originally Blu-ray was predicted to be the winner, then HD-DVD outsold Blu-ray for most of 2006, and now Blu-ray is outselling HD-DVD. I think in order for Sony to truly win with Blu-ray they need a really big price decrease, so its on the same price level as HD-DVD. Once that happens, Blu-ray will definately win. Price is a huge factor in these things. |

If I'm not mistaken, Blu-ray has the best studio (as in Universal, FOX, etc.) backing. Not to mention the PS3 is cheaper than a Blu-ray player, and you get a gaming console. Sony's pushing them together, and I got a feeling that Blu-ray will emerge victorious.
To be honest with you, I haven't really been paying attention to the Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD battle, but from what I have heard Blu-ray is the better option. |

Definitely Blu-ray.
For the most part, because it's going to catch on more because of the PS3. I think that is a definite advantage. And from what I've seen from looking on Netflix, etc. Blu-ray has better titles.

Blu-Ray could be awesome for general backing stuff up due to it's extremely high density dual layer format, 50 Gigs is roughly half my HDD, having that level or storage is mind-boggling.
On the other hand, HD-DVD players are already cheaper [s]and backwards compatible with standard DVDs right out of the gate[/s]. I can't single one out as being better at the moment, they both seem pretty evenly matched. |

Yeah, they're compatible, at least on the PS3.
I still prefer VHS because of how fast and easy it is. Pop the tape in and you're watching a second later. You even get to start where you left off when you took the tape out without any extra hassle. I don't get why people ever downgraded to DVD. Is it cheaper or something? |

According to the latest figures, Blu-ray is quickly gaining on the earlier-released HD-DVD. This is probably due to the PS3 getting released, it went with a coupon for a free Blu-ray movie or something.
Right now, Blu-ray is the more advanced next-generation format, whereas HD-DVD is the cheaper. Back in the day with VHS versus Betamax ( I think that was the case ), VHS won. Betamax (or the competition anyways) was technologically more advanced though. Right now, it's still too early to tell I think. |

I've read a whole bunch of recent articles pointing to a Blu-ray victory.
- They have a huge support base now in Hollywood (much bigger than HD-DVD) - Games are already starting to get too big for HD-DVD (MGS4 and Unreal Tournament 3) - The porn industry is even reconsidering their HD DVD choices - Microsoft said they would switch to Blu-ray if the market swings that way, so they're not really a big supporter of HD-DVD. - Blu-ray has outsold HD-DVD ever since the PS3 was released, and by a growing margin (3:1 atm) Basically Blu-ray is going to win lol |
