Red face Virus protection!

i just wanted to share with everyone about the McAfee Virus protection program. for three years now, i battled viruses with many different programs., then i signed up with comcast and got the McAfee virus protection program and it works great. my computer has been virus free for over a year. so if anyone is having problems with viruses, McAfee is a great program. (and no i'm not advertising for mcafee it's just my opinion)
so does anyone else here use another program for viruses?

Oh, **** no, you didn't. McAfee and Norton's protection suites are nothing more than glorified resource whores. They have the ability to bring the latest top-spec gaming PC down to the processing level of an Acorn.

Get a real anti-virus suite, like AVG or Kaspersky.

Nuked.

That wasn't nice, Ravy. I have McAfee on my laptop. It does a pretty good job, because I download music on it all the time.

And as long as you download music, there's nothing you need to worry about. It's when you download 'z0mg 1337 gam3z' or 'l33t h4xx 4 ur gamz' or 'Check this funny file out!!!' and other stuff like that. And there's a smaller portion that'll install through weaknesses in the operating system, but with a properly updated version of Windows and an alternative browser, there's nothing to worry about.

I've been using AGV Free for a while now (probably a few years already), but I've never had any virus warnings or anything. That either means that the scanner is suck, or that I just never get anything because I know what the **** I'm doing.

I'm not into games as much as I use to be. I don't have a lot of time to sit down and play them anymore. It kind of sucks, because I have to do all this grown up stuff now. =C

...but yea, I agree. McAfee isn't for gaming PCs. I wouldn't dare put it on my PC, it's just for my laptop.

I download 'z0mg 1337 gam3z' all the time. If they're infected, it's usually in the keygen/crack or thereabouts. A quick scan of the downloaded game files usually burns the virus before it learns to walk.

The point I was making, though, wasn't about the ability to scan for and deal with viruses. I was talking about how McAfee and Norton will eat your computer's resources alive. No matter what you use your computer for, it will be much slower and kickworthy compared to the same computer running a decent AV suite.

Norton is ****, it takes FOREVOR to load and EATS RESOURCES (like forementioned), McAfee is bad on resources too but I find it works extremely well as a firewall/virus suite. The firewall in McAfee is even I'd say MUCH better than with Norton, beacouse it's much more flexable.

I've had no problems with McAfee, and had loads with Norton. I often don't mind how hard on recources McAfee is beacouse it's saved my ass before (yes I've seen lots of virus/hack attempts that it's blocked). And before you say it, yes I know what I'm doing, and I avoid obvious virii/etc.
My PC has enough power to spare a little on my virus protection.

Agr'd on the system resources part, I'm sure it's a good and safe package, but I get the impression it does a lot of stuff that isn't really needed.

I thought Norton was horrible. I use Nod32 now and have been very impressed. I reccomend it.

the comments lead me to believe that those methods aren't too successful.
also, i have torrent and such, but that does me no good without something to download. besides, i'm sure there are other ways to get a straight download, since i've used SBC protection before, no torrents needed.

The best one that i have seen so far is Trend Micro PC-Chillen, does the job excellently, never had a virus, and i download things all the times.

kaspersky antivirus is good... unfortunately norton is really a cpu whore
run a virus scan then pull up your task manager, check out that cpu usage!

I use NOD32 and haven't had any problems with it. A subscription costs money, though.
