I don't really want a remake of it as Final Fantasy VII is already over-rated/over-fan based too; but you must remember that Tetsuya Nomura has worked on video games that have just about all been well-received by the gaming community and art communities with his in-depth character designs.
Sure Final Fantasy has not been the same since the end of the era (after Final Fantasy VI - the one which Nobuo Uematsu himself has stated that the original series finished at) and with Nomura working with Amano and Yusuke on the original Final Fantasy VII and again on various other games.
If the original team works on it then I might buy it again otherwise if it is made by another division that has not worked on a single Final Fantasy VII/Gaia/Jenova project (Compilation of Final Fantasy VII Projects) then it most likely would not be the same as the original (storyline, character persona.... etc wise).
But as Spira asked, why don't you explain how Tetsuya Nomura would ruin it (and/or how he ruined the sequel - which was not really that bad when you compare it to other games and/or movies) when he worked on the original?
