No matter how many people whine and complain about wanting a Final Fantasy VII remake, the SQEX staff are currently overworked with multiple other projects and many staff members are going to and from various development divisions and some of the staff members have said that they - quoted from "Bear" (or what I call Bear's Half-yearly e-mail reply) :
"Wouldn't mind remaking VII, but then we'd have to remake VIII and IX. So it'd be all-in-one-go type thing and currently with our project list affecting our workload it is not possible. Adding three remakes onto the list and the staff will complain even more about not wanting to do so much work."
Overall the main reason it would sell is because the majority of people that call themselves "Final Fantasy Fans" nowadays jumped onto the wagon with VII and the end result was of it being highly over-rated. The original series ended with Final Fantasy VI - all of the staff and even Nobuo Uematsu was quoted saying that.
To the side that they're all working their asses off in the main Japan building so much so that the staff haven't even put any of their jokes or easter eggs onto paper or in the script. Hell, it takes them a month to just get the ending dialogue so adding that to all of the games they're working on which is over twenty on various platforms and having some slackers like Moriya if he's still there to make Nomura flip out and shout about how he's been attacked by people demanding a VII remake.
My opinion: Give the staff a break and stop asking for a remake, they're busy with too much work to do with to little staff to do it.
