Best Next Generation Console?
I'm may seem a bit biased, but I'm really not. I bought a Gamecube a little while after it came out, but as soon as I got a PS2 I tucked my Gamecube away to collect dust.
Before I even heard about the price point or problems with the development of Blu-Ray discs, I figured that Sony had the seventh generation in the bag. Now that it's been released with 200,000 units or so to begin with, it's a sure sign that the Playstation 3 won't succeed this time around. I'll have to admit, it's pretty obvious that the PS3 is the most technologically advanced of the three, but graphics don't make the game. At least, they shouldn't. The PS3 has no innovation, and once people realize there's no reason to spent $600 plus on a system that has only 2-4 exclusive launch titles, they'll move on to better systems. Which brings me to my next point.
Being a proud owner of a Nintendo Wii, I can vouch for the greatness that it is. I was a bit skeptical when they first unveiled their "Wiimote" at the TGS 2005. People were afraid of change, but once they got their hands on it, they knew what Nintendo was doing. Nintendo's goal was to make everybody realize that video games were no longer for the teenagers or people in their early 20's. It started with the Touch Generation for the DS and now with the release of the Wii, Nintendo has a much broader audience to sell to. Not all the games are geared towards the non-hardcore audience, Twilight Princess if the perfect example. People are predicting that the Wii will turn into the seventh generation's version of the Dreamcast, but I think it's just the beginning of things to come.
There isn't much to say about the 360. They've had a year or so's head start and they still couldn't manage to make much headway. Although it's priced significantly cheaper, many people aren't seeing the difference in graphic quality from the 360 or the PS3. You've got to give them props for that, even though they aren't doing so well in the backwards compatibility region. I don't know too much about it myself, but I guess that there are a select few games so far that are fully backwards compatible, but the games that are on the list are games that people care less about. Even though they've had a year's head start, I still don't think that the 360's doing as good as Microsoft had thought.
