FFVI The best FF ever?
|
|
|
This game is my personal favorite in the Final Fantasy series. The story, characters, and gameplay are above and beyond anything that Square has put out after. I think the only part of the game that was slightly off was that there was not a definate main character. Other than that I thought FFVI was damn near flawless.
Any agree or disagree?

I'm inclined to agree, and actually the lack of a single main character didn't bother me much. It contributed to the feeling that saving the world was more of a group effort than the doing of any one character.
Plus, it had Kefka. 'Nuff said.

I agree with Aaron, I think the fact the story was not driven by one character added more depth and reality to the game.
FFVI is just excellent - it has some great characters (Setzer ftw), an interesting plot and of course, Ted Woolseys' English translation. What more do you need?

Woolsey's translation had some flaws to it, but most of those are the fault of Nintendo of America for censoring every reference to death and unmarried teenage pregnancy they can find I still kind of wish he hadn't changed random characters' names, but there's no denying the power of lines like "You sound like chapters from a self-help booklet!" Classic, classic stuff.

Next to FFVII, VI is my favorite FF. Really, despite liking FFVII better personally, I have to admit that VI was the superior game in terms of story, characters, and overall appeal.

A lot of my friends talk about how superior FFVI is to FFVII. This and the FFX demo made me buy it when it was re-released on PS1. I played up until the bit where you split off into three groups and just lost interest in it
infact, i may re-start it today.

When I'm scared and cry like a child.
You're there at my side, like a knight of old,
To calm me and hold me a while.

FFVI is one of those games that I really want to finish but just haven't gotten around to it yet. I'd just past when the world is torn asunder and you have to go around gathering all your party members up again. I have a feeling there is still a lot more to accomplish before I'm done though
Part of my problem is that because I'm taking so long playing it, I forget where things are and whatnot, which is tough, because my emulator version doesn't have a functional minimap.
Anyway, I'm wibbling. I'm enjoying it so far, Kefka is really a great/insane villan and Orthos just makes me lol. And that finger wagging thing Edgar does, cracks me up every time.

The Anthology version's loading times are atrocious, but I'm assuming that's what you were referring to anyway.

yea man, not only that but just how grainy and pixelated everything was, maybe that's what i get for playing it on an HDTV - which shouldn't really matter but nonetheless i didn't enjoy it as much as i know i would because i was so hooked from the very beginning.

When a game manages to be fantastic despite ditching any semblance of a plot half way through the game, you know you're playing something quite extraordinary.

Yeah, playing FFVI on an HDTV seems like it would be a bit overkill.
And I liked the lack of plot in the second half of the game. It made for a lot more nonlinearity of gameplay, and really there was a lot more character development because of it as well.
