Default Defining FFVI's Greatest Qualities

Being that I am a new member on the site I find that I probably need to post a disclaimer to the fact that I am a nub. Most people when using a forum tend to look at nubs as people who don't know what they are talking about regardless of the information they post. As that is usually the case I hope that there are enough mature individuals out there that can read a post topic and enjoy it without feeling superior to a person simply because of the quantity of their postings.

On to business:
Final Fantasy VI was one of the first final fantasies that I played and was also one of the first RPG's that I played. I would say that it captured my heart in ways that few games released in the years to follow have. I think this is because back when games were produced on systems that lacked the visual quality that everyone has become accustomed to lately they needed to have characters, storyline, and music that would continue to draw you back to the game. I will admit that at the time of its release Final Fantasy VI was among the most beautiful releases on the SNES graphically speaking. Obviously this is no longer the case, and though it is sad, that seems to be a reason for some people to think that it is inferior to the games that get produced nowadays. But I'm rambling...

Characters:
I would have to say that there are more characters in Final Fantasy VI that I can relate to than in any of its posteriors. You have a diverse cast that is both human and non-human...something that Hironobu Sakaguchi seemed to have stepped away from for a while with the so-called "Golden years" titles of Final Fantasy VII and VIII. While I enjoy VII and VIII I do find that the classics have more going for them in the characters. You were allowed into the lives of each of the characters in the older final fantasies while it seems like in the new ones all you get is enough information to make the character feel like you like them and then you never get more information about them. I would love to continue this post but I think I would be better to open the floor to other people's comments and critiques of the game. Please try to say more than just a few words and stay away from short "I liked the game....yeah I liked it" type comments.
Thanks and I look forward to discussing it in length.
