My girlfriend got a DS, and I want to buy her Final Fantasy III (mainly so I can play it as well as get her into the Final Fantasy series). How is the game, from multiple perspectives (both mine, and my never-plays-RPGs girlfriend)?

Final Fantasy III is very good. It has a very good story and the graphic update is ok. As for your girlfriend, idk how well she would like. I have been playing RPGs for a while, and FF III doesn't seem like a real good starting RPG. But it very good if you have played RPGs for a while. As for your girlfriend, I really don't know if she would like it, but I don't know your girlfriend.

FFIII DS isn't the best RPG to start with since it's one of the more advanced Final Fantasies in the series IMO. The best to start with out be Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls. Great game, though. Whenever you get set up on Wi-Fi, give me your Friend Code. =]

I agree with the general consesus in here. Final Fantasy 1 and 2 would be good, which if you get Dawn of Souls also works on a Nintendo DS.

But, Dave asked if FF3: DS was good, not which game he should give his girlfriend. As for the answer you seek, Final Fantasy III DS is more or less a handheld FF7 graphics and gameplay-wise. The music's not grand, and the storyline is rushed and can be confusing at times (like when you get the Airship near the beginning of the game), and it's one of those games where the first few battles are played out like this:
1) Fight 2) Visit Inn 3) Fight 4) Visit Inn 5) Repeat Process

I have been playing FF III on my DS. I find it very enjoyable to play for a classic Final Fantasy experience. Walk the overworld, fight random encounters, save the crystals, get the airship, etc...
The controls are very good. You can play using only the stylis, or using only the buttons, or both. I've put about 20 hours into it so far, I have to say it's very good for casual play. The quick save feature lets you save at any time, and pick up where you left off. I'll take it out to my college and play it between classes, or I'll play as I lay in bed waiting to go to sleep. I just can't sit down and stare at those little screens for any more than 2 hours, but maybe that's just me. |

Just picked it up the other day and I have to say she's a good little game. Nothing special mind you, but a solid title with a cute little storyline (if a bit contrived) and decent graphics and good gameplay. I'm gonna play some more before giving a final verdict but she's a-okay in my books. :P

I don't know about the DS version (I don't like the remakes anyway, much rather preferred playing the NES FF1 than the new version), but I played the translation of the japanese FF3j ROM, and damn, that game was a ****ing bitch. Took me 2 months of on and off playing to finish, easily the hardest Final Fantasy I've ever played, and possibly the worst present for a girlfriend I can think of. Get her FF8, it's all emo, she'll like that.

Okay i'll speak the honest truth like how x-play gave it a 4/5 or how the chocobobo music rocks but saddly the monsters look well , kiddy like how this kraken looks cool from final fantasy I http://www.rpgamer.com/games/ff/wscf...s/ff1wsc36.jpg
and how the final fantasy III ds one looks is so lame and dumb and the boss music isn't as good but the character jobs are kool but i was mad when they removed samurai and cannoner |
