Default Was Advent Children really "needed'?

To pick your brain a bit try to put a debate on either end of this discussion. Was AC just a bit of fanservice or does it server a purpose in detailing more of the FF7 universe? i've often enjoyed the movie but that don't mean that I thought it was strictly necessary. Though I'm glad it answered the oft-questioned inquiry of what happened in the end, it seems like a bit of a money-sucking racket. :P

Well I really saw no point in there being a AC either. It came and went way too fast.

Loved it but yeah, it was too quick and not thought out enough. I can do with a sequel with the game but frankly that was just a bit too weak a story. The action scenes rawked but that didn't fix the messy chronological scenes especially during the Tifa bedroom scenes and the motorcyle ride to Agit.

The ending was good but there needed to be a bit more of a rising action and even a bit more of the climax. It had a good semi-short ending though.

Yes and it seemed like the climax was kind of "thrown in" there. Without any real substance or feeling of resolution.

Exactly. I even think there should have been more of a initiating action. It also was just thrown in there.

AC was imo complete fanservice. But it did serve to answer a few of the unanswered questions left from teh endd of FFVII.
That's not to say I didn't enjoy it (I loved it, and still do :P) but if they'd thought it out a bit more and fixed a few of the inconsistencies (most of the ones I noticed were visual and not story related, but still...) it woudl have been a much better movie imo.
But I guess they were so eager to release it, that they rushed it a bit too much.

So no, it wasn't really needed, but it was a nice enough addition to the game.

No it wasn't at all. There was nothing left off of the original version, serving no point for this version, I mean yeah go ahead make it over to make some moneys but at least make a good story.

yeah it wasn't necessary, but it sure as hell helped with publicity and it was like a show off of graphics and stuff. I thought it was a good move.

I admit, yes the graphics were nearly the best I've seen, and the soundtrack and fights were just amazing.

Meh, Final Fantasy VII had a few plot holes, so I guess it was needed. That's not to say I liked Advent Children. Music and graphics were great, but storyline wise I was just bored.

And it was all fan service.

There is no such thing as sephiroth, jenova creates this sephiroth. So therefore since Jenova creates it there could be various names for him. Pwnage

Mabye it wasn't needed but I thought it was wanted. The end in FFVII was kinda fuzzy and since many look at Cloud and the gang as the original FF party then it was good to expand our knowledge of them, fanservice or not.
A movie about FFVIII or FFIX wouldn't suit the same way and something about FFVI would feel kinda strange.

I agree. It filled a few plot holes, but lacked in story. I think the big mistake was making it into a movie in the first place. If it was a game, it would have had a lot more depth to it, and it would have to be longer than just 90 minutes. Just too short.

Even if they did make it as a game instead of a movie, there's no guarantee there would be any more depth to it.
Granted, it would have been easier for them to add more depth to it story-wise, but then again, with the story they used in the film, a game would have been pretty crap imo.

Of course,
I agree with that as well. But if it started out as a game, it probably wouldn't have had the exact same story as AC, otherwise it would be crappy like you said, and not to mention shorter than the first rugrats game.

The movie wasn't even fanservice. It was just a way for SE to milk the franchise even more. The movie was atrocious too. The acting stank, the story was pure crap, most of the action was way to fast and claustrophobic to gain anything from it.

All in all, it was a total waste of time and money.

I couldn't help feel towards the end that the entire movie was pretty much just an excuse for a CG Cloud and Sephiroth duke out. VII has become a franchise, the Big-Mac of the Final Fantasy series. It's become a six Patti, grease impregnated pile of cow anus in a Sephiroth-seed bun.

Advent Children was never needed. The only reason it was even *conceived* is because the seventh installment is the most fan-admired game in the the entire series, so much so that it's lasted for oever 10 years.

When something is that popular for that long, the cash registered start ringing.
