Final Fantasy Dissidia

Not sure if there's a thread about this already, nor do I care. Use this thread to discuss your thoughts on the upcoming Dissidia, or to express any theories/rumours you have about it, or to just ask some questions.

I think this game will be pretty awesome. It's apparently a fighting/action game, one that shouldn't such so bad (I'm looking at you Enhrgeiz). With the characters I know about so far, and the graphics I've seen, I've never been happier to own a PSP.

I saw the trailer for dissidia, and it's looking pretty great so far. It's good to see the fight between Zidane and Kuja as an actual fight and not an RPG fight, and it's one of the many fights that I'll likely end up replicating when I get the game (one day in the long distant future)
I'm hoping they got a *lot* of characters in this because it looks like it has a lot of potential, and a limited character selection could kill it quite easily.

It's a 20th anniversary project for Final Fantasy. It's apparently a fighting game a la Smash Brothers, featuring characters from all the FF titles. There's no release date yet but it's coming out for the PSP. The characters we've seen thus far are Kuja, Zidane, Sephiroth, Garland, and one of the FF1 light warriors (I believe... or is he one of the FF2 characters? The plot is something to do with the gods of Chaos and Order and the salvation of existance, hence why all these heros and villains are being drawn together in one place to battle one another.

Yar. If they have only a few characters like eight, ten, even just fifteen the game could get boring fast.

Another thing is, they would do well to make sure they don't miss out on the more obscure main characters of the FF series. If they just have the obvious ones like Cl0d and Sef1r0s then it would hardly be worth buying. It'll just be the same sort of emo gheyfest I try to stay away from.

Indeed, I hope they're smart enough to realize that the main protagonist isn't always the most popular character in the game (e.g. Vivi is a lot more popular with the fans than Zidane).

I have a feeling it will be a pattern of main character, vs main villain, but im hoping for some of the more querky side characters to atleast be unlockable.

Never the less, game looks bad ass, and Garlands a confirmed character, so im buying it. He looks rly bad assed now. and i must ask a favor from the PPL of this forum;

This game has some potencial but the thing that make me hold back my happy roar is the console. PSP. How far can this game go?

Had it been on the Wii you could sit and play it with your friends while talking ****, but now? Nah, don't know..time will tell...

But I doubt they'd make a game to commemorate something like 20 years of FF not PSP only. They know that'd be a slap in the face of the FF console fanbase. My best guess is that this is gonna be the last FF on the PS2.

But idd, time will tell. The official site currently doesn't tell us anything at all other than a crappy flash animation. (well, it's still pretty, but not very informative.)

I don't know about that... Handhelds are vastly outselling consoles in Japan right now, and SE is on that bandwagon with a lot of their franchises (the next DQ9, for example is going to be handheld only).

Oh, and FFXII and DOC were the last FFs on PS2. Square's already said that officially.

Not to bash or anything, but Wei Yan, why would you even bring PS2 into the mix of a game [already] slated to be released on the PSP? Just a thought... as to maybe clarify something else, Kionae has a point about the handhelds. Also, PSP and NDS may be the new hype due to the fact that multiplayer has been a real hit on the handhelds lately, and releasing a action-fighting game for the PSP may be just what gamers have been yearning for; to further see the results of multiplayer on handhelds.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree with Exodus. Why should they overdo the console diversification? I really hate when games are released on separate consoles because then some moron says "I have such and such game for the Xbox 360. It has more features than the one for PSP!" Meanwhile your stuck with the PSP version and on top of that you're jealous about the guy who has the 360 version.

I mean honestly, before this guy came lumbering over bragging about HIS exact game, but maybe with an extra character or two, I sure as hell would be pretty damn content. It's when the goddamn companies decide to make more features for one system. Then people are forced to buy THAT...
