Not entirely sure where in the message board to put this so I posted here and if it needs to be moved so be it, the mods will know where if anywhere that it needs to go.
On To Fame And Glory! My top 10 favorite songs of all the FF Titles in no particular order are: 1: Slam Shuffle - Final Fantasy VI (The Town of ZoZo) 2: Besaid Island - Final Fantasy X (This is Obvious) 3: You're Not Alone - Final Fantasy IX (When Zidane Has Been Brainwashed) 4: Red Wings - Final Fantasy IV (When you fly in on the Red Wings...So Awesome) 5: Prologue - Final Fantasy IV (When Kain And Cecil leave castle baron and the storyline plays to the music...that is prologue...it also has been used in just about every FF since) 6: The Big Whale - Final Fantasy IV (Your space ship's theme song) 7: Epitaph - Final Fantasy VI (When Setzer is telling you about Daryl) 8: Aeris/Aerith's Theme - Final Fantasy VII (DUH) 9: The Landing - Final Fantasy VIII (The FMV at the start of your SeeD Exam) 10: Terra - Final Fantasy IX (The Planet Terra's music) Yeah, so there are a million other songs I'm sure that I could pick...I just randomly picked 10 from my soundtracks that I love.

1. Skies Above/At Zanarkand (the game's original version and the Black Mage version) FFX
- one of the greatest songs period, a beautiful and haunting melody that perfectly set up and then complimented the emotions of the game 2. Roses of May FFIX -achingly poignant and melancholy, lended a more serious air to a game that started out as a little to "tongue in cheek" 3. The Oath FFVIII -yes, another more melancholy song, but instead of a bitter sweet piano melody, this song is lended a more powerful and blunt force with the strings and woodwinds dominating the melody 4. Ending Theme FFX -the perfect music for that scene, the rising emotional stirring coupled with the faded piano near the middle of the song is one of the greatest moments in gaming and music 5. Not Alone FFIX -an upbeat melody placed with a slight edge of mania sprinkled in, it is an odd song that spurs both a little bit of an adrelanine rush and also some trepidation, I love the inherent battle within the song 6. A Place to Call Home FFIX -a difficult song to really describe, wonderful harmony behind a subdued melody 7. Someday the Dream will End FFX -beautiful song in and of itself, add in the scenes that it accompanies and you have the emotinal juggernaut that made FFX the greatet game of all time (the fact that the theme is interspersed in rather upbeat scenes and jaw dropping heartbreaking scenes is a real indication of the genius behind Nobuo and FF music) 8. Cosmo Canyon FFVII -a wonderful song that really seperated (in my mind) the first set of FF games from FFVII and beyond, love the natural tribal feel of the song 9. One Winged Angel FFVII -whichever version suits you best, this is the song that brought game soundtracks to the musical forefront, powerful and dramatic, even the original more electronic sound dazzles while the metal rework for Advent Children really blows the perverbial top off 10. Aerith's Theme FFVII -innocent and sweet at first, this song becomes such a deep sorrowfull pining that it perfectly fits as a montage for Aerith There are quite a few more songs that are fantastic from the FF universe, but for me these four games (and subsequent piano and metal reworks) are the epitomy of Nobuo's legacy and easily seperate themselves from being merely a soundtrack to just being some of the best music ever writte. |
