Dissidia: Leaks, Spoilers, and Unconfirmed Rumors

This thread is solely dedicated toward the compilation of all news regarding Dissidia that falls under the category of Leaks, Spoilers, and Unconfirmed Rumors. By definition, that means anything that was released to the public without SE's consent before official publication, anything secret that some members would prefer to remain ignorant of until the release of the game, and any theories or unconfirmed information that might be open for speculation.

As such, any discussion of topics exclusive to this thread in any other area of the forums is prohibited until it has been confirmed by Square Enix itself. All information will be posted in the subsequent post in as concise a manner as possible, removing any information that has been debunked or confirmed. All discussion, speculation, and potential contributions to this thread's content may follow.

The first is the leak of Shantotto, the Tarutaru black mage, as the XI representative on Cosmos's side. She will be voiced by Megumi Hayashibara. Her ex-mode outfit appears to be the sorcerer's relic attire (as opposed to the artifact attire? or is it the other way around?); her ex-burst remains unidentified. This was first posted by a Japanese blogger who attended the Japan Vana-Fest and has very rapidly spread to many other Dissidia sites--even wikipedia. This is pretty much confirmed as this claim is supported by several very unequivocal pictures, but it is still technically a spoiler at the present time. This also happens to be the first news of secret characters, of which more are expected to follow.

The second is a rumor that has been floating around for months. Apparently someone got smart and hacked into the Dissidia website, revealing the flash code slots for the character wheel. At the time, only 1, 2, 8, and 9 were revealed, but not only were there slots reserved for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 10, but also two extra slots beyond ten. It is still not completely confirmed what these two slots are for, but with the recent revelation of a XI representative, that can only imply representatives for XII as well. Obviously it is very difficult to confirm this rumor, but there have been others who supposedly replicated the feat and found the same evidence.

More scans from it looks like Shounen Jump. Garland only said officially released famitsu scans were allowed in the news section so I'm treating this as a leak for now, even though the quality of these scans implies that they are indeed official. Plus, he is right that we have had too much Dissidia in the news forums...

These scans reveal Shantotto officially; she is apparently able to use fire and quake (w00t quake), and has an alternate costume that doesn't look very different from her default. The other page shows pics of Mateus' and Firion's Ex Modes--Dark Emperor is looking pretty awesome. Enjoy!

Heroes Guide

V-jump has announced that its next issue will be "Destiny Heroes' Guide" which will cover the story modes for all 10 heroes and details on "all 22 playable characters." What this obviously means is that we have one more playable character to be released, and it's pretty obvious that will be a XII representative, most likely on the Chaos side. Do NOT take this as bad news, because many fighter games have been released with absolutely no mention of super secret characters until they are leaked a few days before release. SE has had very tight security on its characters, so it could easily be hiding a few more that are meant to be discovered after the game is released. And if not, well I suppose we should all be happy that we got two more characters than we expected...I think this basically confirms that Vaan is out, so we know that the XII rep will be a good one. There also coincidentally have been a lot of rumors flying around that the XII rep will be a long-ranged fighter--sounds like Balthier to me!

Some more Famitsu scans have surfaced. They contain sections on Shantotto (bio, quake, fire, and something weird), Cloud/Sephiroth's alternate costumes (AC with First Tsurugi and shirtless), Zidane/Kuja's Ex-Modes (Trance, Zidane with Orichalcum), and Bartz/Ex-Death's Ex-Modes (3 Star Mime and Neo-Ex-Death-ish thing). Ultros is also confirmed as a summon, presumably for Kefka if the summons turn out to be character-specific. I've also included the two pages of interviews that were previously published in Dengeki in case anyone is interested...

PP points earned in story mode allow you to unlock weapons, alternate costumes, even music (YES!). And apparently Shantotto's moves can "evolve," i.e., the more you train her, the greater in power her spells increase (fire>fira>firaga). I find that intriguing...

Dissidia: Final Fantasy may not quite have an official US release announcement, but it's hitting Japanese PSPs in a scant two weeks, much to the excitement of FF fans and fanfic writers. Work on the game is done, and a roundtable of Square Enix developers -- creative producer Tetsuya Nomura, senior director Takeshi Arakawa, planning director Mitsunori Takahashi, and main programmer Ryuji Ikeda -- sat down with Weekly Famitsu magazine to discuss some of the latest revelations about their little dream-match mash-up of a game.

On the introduction of Shantotto, a black mage NPC from Final Fantasy XI, to the lineup
Takahashi: There were assorted candidates to choose from [in FFXI], like Prishe. We wound up asking the FFXI fans on the staff what character would make them the most happy to see in the game, and they all said "something Tarutaru"! Shantotto wound up being the choice from the Tarutaru available. They're a small target to strike, so balancing their hit detection was a difficult process -- we can't let Shantotto have a unique advantage, so we were messing with her right to the very end.

So where are the Final Fantasy XII characters at?
Nomura: Introducing Shantotto and not one of the FFXI player-characters was one of the surprises we've given people in interviews from the beginning of the project. As for FFXII, just stay tuned for now (laughs). One idea we had was to include an FFXIII character, but having one debut in Dissidia would lock down the image of his or her skills and so forth, perhaps affecting FFXIII in the process. As a result, we couldn't get permission.

On the pleasures of being an evil character in Dissidia
Takahashi:There isn't a story mode for the Chaos side, but that doesn't mean the story's weaker for those characters. If you play from the Cosmos side, you'll get to see the Chaos story along the way.
Arakawa: If you're trying to raise all the Chaos characters, I'd recommend waiting until after you complete all the Cosmos characters and see the ending. Exactly why I say this is a secret, but...
Takahashi: You can always use PP to access the Chaos characters early on, but you can use a certain mode after viewing the ending that will make raising them a lot more fun.
Ikeda: The Chaos story events are great, too. Basically, one side wants to destroy the world and the other wants to rule over it, and they have conferences and things.

Thoughts on completing the project
Arakawa: I'm just happy to see everything work out. It's a relief that we made the 20th anniversary safely.
Takahashi: [The hardest part] was balancing -- not just between characters, but between all 100 levels and the equipment they may be carrying. It took a long time, and there's really no good ending point to it, but I think we're pretty confident about the results.

According to Famitsu, there will be a five minute Dissidia clip at the end of the December 15 Game Center CX, which will end with a surprise. Seeing as it's only two weeks before the the release date, my prediction is that if we haven't seen the XII character before then, he (yes, I am still gunning for Balthier) will be revealed.
