Unhappy New Posts

the auto-updae it a nice little gimmick and everything, but it's too limited. i want to see every new post since i last logged in, but as far as i can tell from looking at that page, i can't. any chance of changing this?

Yeah, in a little bit when I start cracking down on work again, I'm going to see what I can do about it.

Consider it added to the task list.

I kind of wish it showed all posts up to present as soon as you loaded it, rather than bringing about a delay for the first five. It's fancy and all, but it's kind of annoying to have to wait.

I tried to make it so it shows 100 instead of just 20; I doubt I can get the hack to actually do what was intended, though. I'll see if we get a resounding distaste for this hack before I remove it, though. I just think it's ridiculously sex.

Maybe you should just restore a link to the old-style "New Posts" feature in the Quick Links section.

Meh, maybe later; there's already the Today's Posts link in there anyway, which is good enough for me

Huh, lets see a bit of the old FFE mixed in with that other forum I can't remember......... I just remember mazan or somethin or other haha. Otherwise its not too bad, thou what Aaron said is right, the hack is decent but far too limited in this case.

Oh, lots of things. It's gone through a series of owners who only gave a **** about the place as a way of making them money, and the worst offender is the latest one, who hasn't even bothered making an account on the forums much less interacting with the staff in any appreciable fashion. Despite the fact that every owner has made a sizable amount of profit on the site despite doing next to no work on it (the only exception to that is [s]Edman[/s] Judas, who coded a frontsite manager), none of us except Kionae have seen any monetary compensation for the effort we've put into the place. It's pretty obvious that the new onwer only cares about the site as a way to make money off a ringtone banner and advertising, so nearly everyone on staff feels no real motivation to work on the site anymore. Couple that to the fact that the forums are pretty much dead and you have a **** message board.

Dude, FFR rocks. I made $6000 from it, and spdude made about that much from the 3 site package he sold as well. That let me gather enough funds to buy and sell KHI for far more, and I've gone to 2 vacations and sweetly lived off of that money for the last 6 months. It's now ran out, but eh, I don't really give a ****. There's always more stuff to do.

Yeah, the new owner was probably ****ed over, buying FFR, FF13.org and some other site for $18,000. But he's a millionaire, and this purchase was made to test spdude for bigger deals (which as far as I know fell through anyway), and the site is making about $800/mo, so he probably doesn't really give a **** either.

Also, you run around screaming "OMG, the new owner only cares about the site to make money off of it!", well, no ****! That's what literally every site owner who hasn't squashed his head wants to do. That has been the idea behind FFExtreme.com since year 2003 AT LEAST. This site's now worth about $5000 that Dave could bank any day. But what the hell am I saying, as long as your point of existence on the Internet is spamming on people's message boards and working for others, you will keep on thinking like that. It's the poor man's jelousy syndrome - instead of thinking "****, that guy made 5 grand from that crappy ass site, let me see if I can do something like that" and then going and building something that would earn you money, you think "That guy made 5 grand from that site... curse him!" and then go and post it on message boards so you can feel better about the fact that you're earning nothing.

tl;dr.

But, no, actually, I don't see any reason for your seemingly spiteful messages towards us. No one says you're wrong, there's just some people out there who do this for fun, not because they're greedy little Latvian cunts like yourself.

Much less, I've signed on to do similar work more recently, so I'd be lying if I said making money is a huge rub, but I'd be a fool to say that just plain working on these forums isn't rewarding in itself.

It's like telling someone who voluntarily works in a youth hostel that they're idiots as you speed by in a brand new Ferrari. It just makes you sound like a pompous, rich prick.

What happened to you, Judas?

Additionally, I'm closing this thread for great justice -- it's veered from it's original subject and I'm not remedying it anytime soon seeing as how it ranks pretty low in priority right now on my task list.

I don't really give a **** about making ****loads off ZOMG INTERNETS right now, and frankly your holier-than-thou attitude just makes me even less inclined to pursue that as a course of action. It's not as if I'm exactly starved for cash, and the pleasure of working on message boards for people who appreciate it is enough satisfaction for me at the time being. If I'm a lesser human being in your eyes because I care more about the feelings of human beings I know via the Internets than how much money I can make off it, then I have no desire to turn into anything like you.

I also have no desire to work on a site if the only concern the owner demonstrates for the goings-on of the message board is whether or not it's going to make him money. And the current ownership has demonstrated so little regard for FFR that no one feels any motivation to do anything anymore. If it's really making $800 a month as you claim, there should be no problem for him to repay those of us who have put the effort into making FFR what it is today, or rather was a few months ago when he bought it. All the traffic that allows him to make the money off the site in the first place simply would not exist if dedicated people had not put their time and energy into keeping the forums active. And he hasn't even given us the courtesy of registering on the boards, much less offering any sort of monetary incentive to continue putting effort into the place. Not that we could at the moment anyway, since none of us have the FTP password and he decided to restrict our admin control panel access without even talking to us about it.

So yeah, sure, I could go about buying and selling message boards and making profits off other people's labour. But frankly... I have principles. I intend to make my fortune in other, less exploitative ways. But I don't really give a **** how much money I have until I finish uni. First things first.
