One Winged Angel just gets it for me. But then all the FFVII games or movies I've seen have great music (even DoC, go Gackt!!) They thought more about the atmosphere with those soundtracks, and there's more thematic development which ties it all together. I did miss Nobuo Uematsu in DoC though, I thought Vincent's theme was underused and would have been suited to that game. FFX is also a great one, I love the Orchestral version of Suketi Da Ne, and again the themes appear lots of times, so they create a sense of familarity.

My fav soundtracks i have are VI and X. But the musical scores of the new ff IV and Crisis core sound pretty cool too. Not to mention my enlightened love towards tactics music... Meaning i also like XII music, and if 4 was ok then so was 5 (battle on the big bridge) and in that case i liked 1-3's music aswell due to the old school beatz... And i do like the fight music for 8 and 9 as i have their mp3's.... And real emotion's. And though i never heard XI's music i can bet its good. and mystic quest, unlimited, all the gba knock offs and chocobo games ruled. Not to mention Squares mario rpg flare music. ooooooooh and the celtic style of crystal chronicles.
So i like all those... minus 7's music... Ok 7 was good... But no Jews... :P

I'm Jewish. JK, I'm catholic. But I'm justifyed in making that joke because Jewish is in my blood. I agree with you about Tactics. It's an amazing soundtrack. Remember when Wiegraf first changed into a Lucavi? Good music.

Wow, this is really tough for me. It really is a three way tie between XII, VIII, and II. Battle at the Big Bridge, Succession of Witches, or Rebel Army Theme? All three games have amazing soundtracks that not only give me goosebumps listening to them but fit the place and evoke that emotion in you so well.
I just wanted to say the drums in the XII and VIII OST's are amazing. So goes for the winds in II. |

Liberi Fatali, One-winged angel, Final Heaven(I think from VII), X's theme song, and some of XII's music. There was also a music that I liked from VIII whenever Ellone appeared as a child. Don't know what it's called.

Let me assess this for a second.
VII was great, memorable, probably most famous, etc. I felt it sometimes, but I didn't FEEL it, ya know? I think Wutai is the best song... perhaps that says something. XII was dramatic and it really enhanced the game. I really liked XII, but the fact that it's only orchestral (and that a pianocollections is doubtful) kinda makes it lag a little. I really appreciated the theme from Clash of Swords and the Intro and various cut scenes being used again in the final battle song. It was a nice full-circle experience I've only found there and in Twilight Princess. But I digress. IX was probably second best because it was so intense. And by intense, I encompass the peculiar dorian modality that was in many of the songs, such as Qu's Marsh, Gulug Volcano, and of course The Place I'll Return to Someday. I also liked how the theme from The Place was repeated in Terra, Ipsen's Castle, etc. It's always nice to feel that same theme in different ways and settings. Overall, I felt it was very cohesive and well organized. X was most definately the best for other similar reasons. The general tone it set was impressive. The decor, coloring and style of the game had a certain feel, and the use of stacked 9 and 11 chords, weird progressions like in Decisive Battle and Summoned Beast Battle , and heavy use of alternative percussion instruments like piano, guitar, and mallets all made a huge contribution to the tone of the whole game. Suteki Da Ne was very fitting, and I really liked Attack and Start, which I think describe the feel of the music best. Of course, Silence Before the Storm is the best of all the songs FF has had. And as for recurring themes, although very similar every time, To Zanarkand was prominent in assisting the movement of the plot and theme. I've thought about this before. =] |

My favourite would have to be FFVII's. Even though FFX had an incredible soundtrack FFVII is unrivalled. (Aeris theme prob most famous).
Anything Nobuo Uesmatsu touches turns to gold though... |
