Technically it's part of the Compilation, Sequel and Spinoff's forum if you read the forum description. It's where all "general" FF topics are supposed to go... unless that's changed.

Oh wow, I didn't even notice that part of its description. Uh. Maybe that forum should be renamed, 'cause I don't think most people would even think to look there for general FF stuff, tbh. xD

But yeah, go ahead and move it.

actually, *makes staff thread*

I'm gonna go with Sephiroth. cliched and obvious i know, but you have to admit he's pretty cool.

He's the "new to final fantasy" fan's bad guy I have to admit. How he acts cold hearted and bad ass makes any of the new players go "OMG he's so bad ass! He owns. Period!" Yet after a while his insanity and bad assery become moot compared to other bad ass who are even more cold hearted but in an ulterior way "such as Kuja" and the insanity can be seen as the mother complex.

Kefka.

Creepy, evil
(poisoned a ton for God's sake!)
, chilling and diabolical. Sephiroth has nothing on this guy.

I was actually afraid of this guy, instead of laughing my butt off at its effeminate self.

Kuja was a cool villain.

i also liked the look of Edea from VIII, i was kinda disappointed when
she wasn't the main villain anymore
.

Sephiroth takes the cake for me. Although very easy, he was one hell of a villan. (Seymour was also a pain in my arse too, one of the most annoying villans.)

Sephiroth wasn't really even much of a villain considering it's pretty clearly implied that his insanity was intentionally triggered by Jenova. He's just a pawn, really.
Incorrect. The Ultimania confirms that Sephiroth was in control of his actions.

As for the “best” I’ve always had a hard time deciding between Sephiroth and Kefka. Kefka technically is a better villain as he accomplished more but I always enjoyed the storyline behind Sephiroth. They are vastly different villains and I love them both despite that. Both are technically clichéd—I’ve seen the pretty boy badass and the insane clown villains many times before—but each had a specialness to them that kept me intrigued. I personally liked Sephiroth more but that’s mostly a matter of taste.

Yeah, but I think the Ultimania is a load of horse****. From the evidence in the game itself it's pretty obvious to me that Jenova was manipulating evidence around Sephiroth to lead him to the conclusion that she was his mother, and thus enabling him to be set off on the path of narcissism, pyromania, and omnicide which he so famously set out upon at Nibelheim. So even if he THINKS he's in control of his actions, it just so happens that his actions serve the purposes of Jenova just perfectly. Coincidence? I think not.

Well I took a tally of the favorite villians and this is so far how it goes:

#1.- Sepheroth
2.- Kuja
3.- Kefka
4.- Vayne
...............

My favorite is still Kuja from Final Fantasy IX

But if you counted up the justifications people gave for their choices instead Kefka would be the obvious runaway winner

Kuja, very elegant in his mannurisms, speech and style. He was class, as regal as any power hungry king and he played it perfectly. His thought for everything being a stage on a great play is yes very classic, but at the same time it never loses its ability to astound or awe. Plus I love the fact that when he finally accomplished his goal to take over his own destiny he found he was going to die anyways and became crazed and fell into a hopeless depressional rage.

It is good though cause he is the ONLY villian who really regrets his mistakes at the end and finally sees that he was wrong in an FF game, and helps out the very people who beat him in the end

I'd say Kefka. Pure evil, and he knew it and liked it.

Oh well now c'mon, we all know Sephiroth would take the cash. I mean have you ever seen a guy with this much attitude, just the appearance rules all.

I’ve seen plenty of videogame villains with way more, actually. Try Suikoden II’s Luca Blight, FFVI’s Kefka Palazzo, FFIV’s Golbeza (not in the syrupy censored **** Nintendo forced Square to release though, try J2e’s translation for some real fun) and Shadow Hearts’s
Albert Simon
for just four examples.

As for the appearance, meh, nothing that hadn’t been done before in too many animés to list. If a villain has to rely on looks in order to be imposing then I’d say that’s a pretty good sign of ****ty character development

Hehe ok well you got me there, but i reckon the main evil thing that makes sephy sephy is the hair and eyes.

The long Grey hair just makes him, but the evil dark eyes that just stare at you, now thats cool, hehe.

Visually he certainly is a very effective character. I just think there's way more to an effective videogame villain than looks.
