Default Best final fantasy opening.

Inspired by Hayates Best FF Ending i was curious to what peoples favourite opening is.

By this i mean the opening clip but also the first 30 minutes of gameplay etc.

I personally liked Final Fantasy 8. The opening clip was quite fast paced but what sells it for me is the gamplay at the begining. It got you involved in everything straight away. Pity about the rest of the game...

Anyways what areyour views???

FFIV's was pretty epic.
The burning of Mist and the disappearance of Cain
set an early hook effectively, providing enough mystery to cause players to want to play more.

I was more impressed with FFVIII. The opening battle between Seifer and Squall was pretty awesome. Though I didn't enjoy the ten minute explanations of junctions, limits, etc., I did enjoy battling Ifrit early on in the game, and starts you off almost immediately on a SeeD mission (or exam, whatever), which also had some pretty nice scenes.

Ye i agree Exo. The starting off with seed tests was good, especially the clip of squall looking onto the fighting in the distance on dollet on the vessel. They should of had some more seed missions like that before timber. And That fight with siefer. So much action so early drives me to play it. Hated the Laguna bits though.

Btw i think you can hit triangle during those explanations to skip them.

personally i think ff9's was good rivalling ff8's. FF7's was a bit weak but you have to admit that the gameplay makes up for it. FFX was alright. Havent got ff12 yet thanks to amazons sluggish deliveries but will comment on that when i get it. Or rather if i get it. ffX-2 wasnt really a final fantasy to me i found it a bit of a piss take to be hounest. ok it was good in some aspects like modifieng the job system from one of the older ff's.

FFVII was made like a sandwhich; what is on the top and bottom is flavorless, but what's in the middle makes the whole thing good. So I'm guessing that anyone who says that FFVII's opening was good, is going to be judging it by the filling.

Anyway, I quite enjoyed the opening of FFT. The first thing they do is throw you right into battle. Out of the regular FF series though, I'd have to say that FFVIII was pretty good. The whole thing was good, but out of the first 30 minutes of each one I've played, that one is the best.

FFXII hands down for me. Holy **** it was so incredible, not just the amazing animation but the whole Idea of what happened, it was just so chaotic and a PERFECT setting for a story because of all the directions they could have gone. FFIX a close second followed by FFVIII.

VIII's has the best intro in the entire series. If your gonna add tidbits about the opening as well the first minutes of gameplay then still VIII. Your weren't drag about the junction explanation. It was completely optional. And having Ifrit the first boss is already gold.

Eh, FFVIII was only good IMO because of the graphics. If you look at the opening, it really has nothing at all to explain the game, or give any leads into the story besides how Squall got his scar. Everything else was just... coolio grafix.

I'm with Faded on this one, I think that FFXII had the best opening as well.
You start off as a teenager, Vaan's brother, in the midst of a fierce battle between two warring factions, then the ending of the beginning, if that makes sense, lays the groundwork for Basch's story.
It's pretty ****ing amazing.

Out of all the openings I've seen from I - X-2 then the opening FMV from FFVIII was the most impressive, only time in the series I reset the game just to see it again. Really good at setting the tone for the game although the game in comparison was a let down.

Are you serious? FFVIII has the best kick ass intro ever! It has been recognized as such by many factors. Graphics, music, FMV’s, perfectly placed in sync. The intensity of the FMVs as they play along builds up nicely as the music plays; which btw, Liberi Fatali totally embraces that fact alone majestically. xD

I'd have to agree about how FFVIII had a great looking opening with plenty of action and a great score by Uematsu to back it up, but it laid very little groundwork for the story. That was the reason I went with FFXII over FFVIII; it looked good and the first 30 minutes really got the story going.

I liked FFXII, that’s about it really. I wasn’t too impressed with intro since this is what the discussion is about. Honestly, the opening intro of 12 was kinda weak in a sense because it has been done already…it reminded me of Star Wars =S thus not being as unique as FFVIII’s.

I'm torn on this one. What I can say for certain is that the one's on PS1 have been the best. 7 has the best actual gameplay opening sequence. The assault on reactor #1 is so much fun to play and never really gets old. Cinematically 8 takes the pie no problem, the battle of Seifer and Squall and Rinoa in the field and the suitably epic orchestral music sets the stage very nicely... But then you wander around Garden for a while and you're like... Wha... Huh? Fighting stuff? When do i get to fight stuff? Who's this Bint in the dress with the glasses, she wasn't in the movie!

9 Has the best combination of the two, my only problem with 9's opening is that the cinematics, while gorgeous and so very well coupled with the soundtrack don't seem to bare any imediacy to the story. They foreshadow a little bit but then you're very quickly launched into something that has nothing to do with a little boat whipping around in a storm and it's not long before you forget it even happened.

So
7 best gameplay
8 best movie
9 best all round

Bollocks, why did you start with FFVII? If you're going to make a poll, go all the way; it's not like you don't have the power.
