yeah gamehead on spiketv had already gotten that information a few weeks back

hmmm, well, i do love squares non ff titles aswell, although i havent seen a decent one in these times as of yet, i do not however posess any of the next gen systems at the moment, so alas, i cannot partake on this divine quisine of what looks to be an intriguing design of a game. I believe most of the footage, was in real time game play was it not? Most presumptuous! And i would expect nothing less of the fine HD capabilities of what some would call "an Age Of Harbingers"

The game looks good from what I've seen so far, but is it an online game only like FF11 or just a regular game. I haven't read much about it, only seen videos.

Well.. I must say the quality looks pretty poor for a game being released on a modern day console, it looks like a PS2 could do the same things these graphics are showing but the cause of this could be due to perhaps a poor quality video? I'm not sure.
But even so the combat system looks interesting, I'll definitely try it out.

mmm.. looks very interesting. I would think the gameplay is a bigger draw than the graphics could be, even though it IS on the next generation of consoles. I would attribute part of it on the fact that its running on the Unreal Engine and that they might be progressively tweaking it for better performance according to each console. It should be noted that the trailer was for 360 (which is technically weaker than the PS3) and also that the video quality isnt that great.
That said, it is far from being released so alot of things could change, as is the case with alot of game trailers/teaser before its release. |

Also take into account, that the trailors in games always look more promising than the finnished game itself.

The bastard child of Vegnagun?
Um.. Yeah, it does look somewhat interesting. I agree with the views of the graphical quality *watches trailer again*...but that little combat piece looked nice enough. For the critics, I would throw out the "Trailer does not represent the end product" motif, however, many trailers tend to showcase a subject's best capabilities, in a bid to advertise them. Still, the gameplay looks promising so you might not be too bothered. EDIT> Garland: The game is turn-based but there are no random encounters. |

I still don't understand why people are so graphics obsessed these days. If game companies spent less time making it look perfectly photo-realistic and more time making sure the gameplay was awesome and the camera controls didn't suck ass, we'd all be better off. Just because you CAN spend your entire budget on the graphics doesn't mean that you should.

I realised that definitely when I started playing FFVIII and XI again, alternating, just after wandering around in X-2.
I wasn't deterred in the slightest by playing the earlier games and found myself playing them as often as I would if they were new. XD I believe I created my best save files too, and inevitably, as with most other titles you go back to playing after a long time, discovered/learnt a few new things/tricks. But graphics are kinda like the face of a game, adding to the beauty. If you heard about a much-hyped game, then saw a commercial of it on TV...and it had [below standard] graphics...a thought would cross your mind, no? |

As for the point about gfx, the problem with trailers is that firstly, the people who make the trailers don't necessarily know how the game works. Development =/= marketing. They might just happen to know how to work an audience thats all. Secondly, graphics is important because it is the 'face' of the game after all, but there are some limits. Not all games are meant to be graphic-intensive or even focused on graphics. Thats like saying Tetris needs to be done in polygon-rendered CG. The fact The Last Remnant is on a next-generation console though, I believe the developers felt that it was their responsibility to push the envelop of game graphical design. After all, Square has been at the forefront of console graphics for games since it started producing PS1 FF titles and has continued since then to spawn many iterations of beautifully rendered in-game models and a pretty much perfected FMV engine. Good graphics may not a game make, but bad graphics easily a game break. They also show clearly that there is a sizeable audience out there who are more obsessed with the graphics than the game itself. |

FF XI, is an anomoly Spira, as are most mmo Trailors are, which, like you said, expand or get tweaked months to even years after the trailor meets the public. I remember that the original trailor to one MMO for Games-Workshop, was sooo horrible, they actually switched companies to finish making the game XD! Obviously peoples tastes in games, are uniquely suited to them, one might be an Audio Whore, where as another might be Graphic hungry, where as a third party could have a hankerin for some good top quality game play. Graphics are the face of a game, but gameplay rly is a big deal aswell, because we must remember we are playing a game not a movie, Drakenguard had some awsome graphics, but the game play and voice acting greatly overwellmed it, where as Games like Metal slug, are still great hits and sequels are still being made for them even with the old early 90's graphics, For its retro feel and addictive gameplay.
However, like So and So said, this is "NEXT GEN" we're paying a small fortune for these new systems and demand seamless flawless non cubical HD graphics, ALL THE TIME! Infact, i bet that a PS3 or 360 game that has so called "awsome" gameplay like that of wind waker, but super deformed, Spank ur grandma ugly graphics, will Crash. Because, when ppl buy a game, most of them look at the screens and graphics before they deside to buy them or not.

Besides, graphics are not an indication of game quality. I've had plenty that look gorgeous but play like ****, and others that look like **** and play like awesome (Kya: Dark Lineage comes to mind for the latter, in addition to Windwaker, the ugliest Zelda game in creation). That's not to say that there aren't any games out there that both look great and play great... there are. But you can't judge on graphics alone. You just can't. It'll come back to bite you in the ass nine times out of ten. |

Thats why smart shoppers tend to look at extensive reviews before investing their cash. But i heard alot of bad reviews for some games, Like Ninja council 2, and ended up loving it! To each his own i suppose, you should trust your gut feeling with a future game splurge more than anything else.

I actually thought Wind Wanker didn't look too bad.. but perhaps the graphical direction doesnt appeal to you, thats all. Its decidedly cartoony, which is acceptable for Nintendo seeing as how they're more kiddy-targeted.
Gamers in-the-know know better than to base buying a game solely on its advertising. The advertising isn't always there to convince a buyer, its there to entice people and make them aware of the product. With knowledge of the product, they can then proceed to find out more about it. Game reviews help in a way because they supposedly give 'expert opinion' on the game in its various aspects but for the most part I think that reviewers nowadays don't know what they're talking about. With Internet access and the availability of information of such games online, gamers can get to see the information about the game, or even video clips of how the game work before they decide to make the informed purchase. Ultimately, its the gamers decision. There is no clear case of 'because this review said this, or because this advert showed this, i have to buy the product'. They may exert influence, but I don't think we should be making slippery slope assumptions |
