Another day passes, another redesigned PSP is announced to coincide with a particular game. This time Square Enix have a trick up their sleeve; those who buy the PSP bundled with the game will have it a week before it is released on the 20th September in Japan. The bundle is limited to 77,777 and comes with the newly redesigned PSP, the Crisis Core game with a limited edition cover and an FFVII sword strap- the price for this is 25,890 yen. Pictures below for you from Famitsu, news comes from GamesArefFun website. No news whether it will hit the States or overseas.

Before and After, PSP Edition: Slim vs. Fatso Differences mostly seem to be better battery performance, more memory, better placement of switches and ports, etc. |

the PSP slim is basically the 2nd gen PSP. Once it is released, Sony will be phasing out the original PSPs.. Its not very much different. Slimmer, lighter, longer battery, no more infrared, moving around of the wifi switch, and the disc tray or whatever the term for it has been altered

i looked at the comparison pics and im not too happy with the slim one having the smoothed-rounded edges.. the original psp has this classic feel because some of its edges are kinda like a piano.. (especially in piano black).. sophistication.. but when it comes out and i get a hands-on i might change my mind.. screw sophistication if i can get better load times and play on TV

There has always been some sort of Playstation with a Final Fantasy cover. I remember a year ago, there was the release of Final Fantasy XII and with it came the Japan-only Final Fantasy XII PS2. And when they come out with XIII there will be another Japan-only Final Fantasy PS3.

It'd be a reason for me to buy the new PSP's, but considering it will never be released here...
More I look at it, more it doesn't look so bad, really. But nothing from Japan reaches here. Wasn't there some Japan only Portable Ops PSP that never reached the States? That's what I heard anyway, shame to. |

Why call it PSP Slim if it's not actually that much slimmer. DS Lite is definitely much lighter than the original DS. And superior in many ways. It just seems silly to call it that when there's little difference to be had.

I think they used Slim & Lite to describe it simply because those are the most distinct changes that this newer version of the PSP will have. There really isnt very much need to revamp its design considering the original PSP is already an aesthetic marvel..
An important difference between DS and DS Lite with the PSP and the PSP Slim is that the PSP Slim will be phasing out its older counterpart. Sony has already ceased production of the older PSPs, so this should be seen as something like a 2nd generation PSP instead of a different version that will be produced concurrently.. In any case the Slim is superior to the PSP by a fair bit, like the doubling of its RAM capacity and the reduced weight and extended battery life... all are pretty minor changes but minor things add up to make the difference... and the PSP was really that good to begin with already. |
