A few gaming sites are reporting that a petition to get Final Fantasy VII remade has gathered over 14000 signatures on the website Petition Online. Rumours of a remake have always been rebuffed by Square Enix yet the famous Tech demo seemed to have sparked new hope to those wishing that FFVII would be looked at again by SE, especially with their new business model of remakes, spinoffs etc.
Below is an excerpt from the petition, which you can read more at the source: “This is a petition that I am starting, not with the intent of forcing this to happen, but rather, to show Squaresoft that this is something that their fans want to happen. The original Final Fantasy 7 was an amazing game. However, I think that it could be an even more amazing game. In all areas of creativity, Squaresoft’s employ has improved ten fold since Final Fantasy 7. They get better and better with every new game. Being that Final Fantasy 7 is widely considered the best game they ever made, a remake seems almost inevitable. Even so, I still would like to give this idea a little push in the right direction. “ Whether you want to lend your support, or browse the opinions of those on the petition, check out the source link below. As much as I loved FF7, I think that they need to leave it alone. They might end up damaging FF7 in the process, and when you think about it, they cannot really convert some of the lighthearted scenes to a fully voice acted game that looks a little more serious than the little sprite and textbox games. Some of FF7 might not come across very good in some instances, but in others, I agree it would rock.
I think SE need to focus on making new titles rather than continuing to remake old ones. |

Agreed with RedCloud. Although, a FFVII is in high demand, and Square knows it. I'm just worried Square might **** with the story if they remake Final fantasy VII. It was a decent game, and they should leave it as is.
Although we can see a remake coming within the next five years or so, considering they like teh munniez. |

Honestly, I'm tired of Final Fantasy VII, it wasn't the greatest in my opinion and I would honestly prefer to watch a fully rendered Ex-Death, Garland and even Kefka on my television properly than having to see Cloud and Sephiroth appearing on it yet again due to the demand of the Final Fantasy VII fans as it's had too many spin-offs for my liking and still... I don't see why it was so great in comparison to the original Final Fantasy which started them all.
*Shrugs* But that is just my opinion, now... if it was to remake the originals properly and to plan to remake the series up to IX then I would sign it but that petition and other petitions' have been around so many times for Square to remake just VII. (*Sighs* I myself am additionally attempting to teach myself how to make my own technical demos' and see what I can do with some renders and arrangements of the original soundtracks before actually sending around a petition or anything as Square's graphics' have already changed to a new level since the PS3 Tech demo was released). Besides, I'm more of a Final Fantasy VIII type. [Side note: my apologies for rambling.]

Christ! Look, they didnt do a N64 remake when they had the FF VI tech demo, they didnt do a PS2 remake when they had the FF VIII tech demo, So they will NOT do a FF VII remake for the ps3! To do so would prove that they are money grubbing cheep scates who'd do anything to make an extra buck! if they did that theyed make sure that any contimplating sony fan, would now HAVE to purchase a PS3!

I think that we should have a petition here at FFE. We need a petition saying that we don't want any more remakes! I'm sick of seeing "Final Fantasy Advanced" and no "Final Fantasy XIII". They just need to focus on new Final Fantasies.
I understand that they may want to give kids who were born in the 90s a chance to play original Final Fantasies, but the originals are nothing comepared to the new ones (With the exception of FF and FF6). Who's with me?

Mind you remakes are not a bad idea, dont get me wrong. Im all for playing Tactics the lion war on the psp or whtever, as i didnt get a chance to really enjoy that game, and i also dont mind having port remakes of some of our old FF games either, just to replay on more "available" equipment. Infact, id probably be thrilled to have a remake of VII, if it wasnt coddled so much. those "compilations" that they released, and so vulgarly tore through any imagination a kid might have by going through every ounce of information in VII ruining it for those who speculated their own sequels or prequels for the game. Now, im not a VII fan as most ppl know, so this didnt infuriate me as much, but if they did the same thing to VI id rip up a phone book! 'What if they unveiled the mystery of GoGO? or had several prequels of Shadows past in which hes really Locks Father or something!?'
noooo nooo, i wouldnt stand for it, oh sure when it would come out id be giddy to see a hi Res version of all my classic characters, but after a while, like the cloud cameos, id just grow tired of seeing there mugs on every SE game!

I don't understand the complaints about a remake. "they should just leave the original game alone blah blah blah". . . no one's ****ing with the original, just don't play the remake if you're so against it. nobody's taking the original away from you. good god.

I'm definitely for a technical remake, since they've already done so with 1-4.. I see no reason why 7 should be spared from getting improvements based on current technology. In fact, I'm hoping that they remake 5-9. 5-6 could get their major facelifts just as FF4 will be getting in Dec, and 7-9 could all be fitted into single DVDs with marked up FMV quality and graphic rendering...
a remake for FF7 makes sense because they've already created this Compilation of FF7 market.. and its quite strange how the core game is completely out of place from the rest of it, which utilize the exact same graphic style, character proportions as well as a heightened future-punk style. If i were to see the VII remake happen, I'd want it to be on the PS2, on a dvd, and follow in the graphic style of the rest of the compilation. It should use as much of the old pre-rendered CG backgrounds as possible, and feature no voice acting. FMVs should all be redrawn to the compilation's standards. The rest really just need a graphical and audio reworking.. Smoother textures, less crappy animation etc.. SE knows this stuff better.. to basically bring FFVII up to their current standard of expectation... |

if they remake ff7 they better keep it exactly the same only with better graphics, more sidequests, items, equips, and new skills or something
and possibly an alternate ending but thats it |

FF7 has like 5 spin off titles because that was the entire point of the compilation..
I agree its kinda not fair to the rest of the series but I suppose VII had the most backstory to kinda flesh out and develop... with the quality that goes into the spin-offs, one would kinda expect a remake to happen for the core game.. and I don't think FFVII should be changed so drastically as to have alternate endings... stuff that don't affect the main story is fine tho.. let sleeping Aerith's lie. |

What would a re-make give apart from better graphics and smoother gameplay?
For me, that was the beauty of FFVII. The block-style arms, and polygonal characters were an awesome effect. The art for the avatars of the characters in the menu were good too, and the pre-rendered backgrounds tied everything in nicely. If a re-make is done i think they may be tempted to add in more to the storyline (about lucrecia and vincent, etc.) but who knows. I think they should leave the game alone. People didn't complain about the graphics and gameplay that much when it was released, so deal with it. |
