It's a series that has been with the gaming community since the earliest days, and has grown up alongside many of us. From the earliest Cid, to the revolution of the PS1 era, to the many incarnations of the current generation, few franchises have endured with gamers for so long, and Final Fantasy Festival, an independent endeavour supported by Square Enix themselves, looks towards celebrating 20 years of history.
"To those who loved this world... and knew friendly company therein: This Reunion is for you." On 18th December 1987, Final Fantasy was released in Japan for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Twenty years on in 2007, the Final Fantasy series is still one of the biggest and most recognised videogame franchises on the planet. Final Fantasy Festival is unique because it is a collaborative effort of numerous websites and communities from across the internet - FFExtreme included - that have banded together to create a non-profit website aimed at looking back over 20 years of the Final Fantasy franchise. Amongst the highlights of the website, which is receiving support directly from Square Enix itself as a celebration of the franchise's history, is an interview with series localisation veteran Alexander O Smith, where members can present their own questions to the man himself, and a live birthday card, being signed by fans all over the world, along with a constantly updated list of fans submissions, highlighting the love and appreciations of gamers around the world for the series. Although the celebration of Final Fantasy's 20th Anniversary will take place there, Final Fantasy Extreme plans to celebrate the anniversary of the series in its own way in the coming weeks, so keep your eyes posted to the community as we look towards commemorating ones of gaming's most enduring - never final - fantasies.

His main duty is in writing the scripts for these games (more specifically, translating them from the Japanese scripts) along with other translation works. He's also done plenty of stuff outside of the Final Fantasy franchise. It's hard not to respect the man who write the Final Fantasy XII script. ![]()
