Yes you heard it right, it seems like Japan is finally yielding to us all their country exclusive FF spinoff's made in the mid 90's to us. And as a bonus, they've taken the liberty to make massive tweekings and total remakes of them all. Chocobo and the Magic picture book was a start, but you will soon be able to witness the new Chocobo Dungeon series first hand this Summer.
Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon, continues the epic saga of everyone's favorite yellow mascot, but this time, the theme is alot more... three dimentional... :P
One day, treasure hunters Chocobo and Cid
happen upon a strange town.
The town is Lostime, where the townspeople
believe that forgetting is the key to happiness.
Whenever the bell on the clocktower rings,
they forget their sad memories, aggressive
impulses... Sometimes even their own names.
Then a boy named Raffaello comes to town.
He is able to create dungeons out of people's
memories and help them remember their past...
The gameplay is more of a traditional dungeon crawler RPG then picture book's minigame genre. You take on the role of chocobo and explore maps and dungeons, collecting treasure and beating baddies while stopping in town from time to time to utilise it's varios types of conveniant shops and utility buildings. The dungeons are randomly generated ensuring that each one is a new experience once you enter and re-enter it, (also meaning that walkthrough's will be less usefull). Chocobo is given a variety of familiar job class options as you progress through the game, and it introduces a new ability system with oldschool final fantasy essentials, along with traps, treasure hunting and warp duels. The chocobo saga's are big tribute games, so don't be suprised to find some ingame crossovers, be they monsters or characters.
