Mog might have different models. Just like the other summons. Like it could have an auto summon that would be the one from KH and a manual summon that is from VI or some other game.

Huh?

It's that time of the year again. Where school begins to take more time out of the week. If I stop showing up for more than a week, I'm probably just dead from the weight of the books.

No, it can't be. There is only one moogle summon (manual) in Dissidia, and it uses the artwork from XI, which looks nothing like the clearly KH-styled moogle in the trailer. Plus, none of the summons have 3D renders--it's all artwork. Plus, the moogle in the trailer is not only 3D, but fills up the whole screen--if it were a summon, it'd be about a quarter of that size and much less detailed.

Disclaimer: I'm still not a fan of Sora, this is just where the evidence points. I wouldn't mind a Sora cameo, but I think there are many more deserving characters. And I think that Sora might become a second Cloud-whore if they started including him in every SE game... :P So I'm all for people hating on Sora, but don't think that I made this because I think Sora should be in Dissidia because I don't.

And I had an epiphany last night. Ignore the fact that it is a KH moogle for the moment and look at the way this game was developed. It was inspired by KH (in fact, originally intended as a KH game), and a majority of its staff is from the KH team. We also know that if it sold well enough they would consider making a sequel, and according to Lamont Nomura has already started pushing for that to happen. Looking at what the KH team has done in the past, they like to throw in extra stuff for American releases (as they have already shown with Dissidia, adding a new battle feature and changing some of the characters' movesets). And they never throw in anything pointless--new characters are accompanied by new challenges, i.e. battles, weapons, and previews of upcoming installments.

So, we already know that the moogle is rendered at least cutscene quality, possibly even FMV, meaning it can't be a summon. We also know that due to the constraints of the UMD, it likely isn't another character (not Moogle itself, and certainly not Sora--why add a moogle in addition to Sora? Waste of space), it can't be a battle (again, constraints, not to mention anticlimactic fighting a moogle of all things), and while new weapons are probable there is, again, no reason to throw a moogle in. So if the Moogle is quite likely not a PC, the only place it fits is in story mode cutscenes.

So why throw a Moogle of all things into story mode? Again, ignoring the fact that it's a Moogle, apart from adding a few new weapons or summons, adding a few cutscenes is probably the easiest addition to make. It's cheap, it's space-efficient, it's quick. It might have even already been in development before the Japan release and they figured they'd finish it in time for the Western release which they'd then re-release as Final Mix/International version in Japan.

Now we address why the only new NPC in story mode is specifically a Moogle. There's no space for extra battles, it's not a summon, it doesn't bring new weapons with it, in fact there is nothing in this game it can add besides a cameo. So looking at potential cameos, they could have gone with Gilgamesh, but that would have been V-biased; they could have gone with a chocobo, but chocobos don't have much character; they could have gone with a XIII representative, but those characters aren't completely developed yet. In fact, the only thing that fits is a Moogle. But like Gilgamesh, they couldn't just use, say, VI's style because it would seem VI-biased. So they had to look at games outside the main FF titles and Tactics (remember, anything from tactics could be seen as XII-biased).

And now, the final piece. Why is it a KH Moogle? Anyone could see that if they wanted to stick to FF titles, the Moogle style from Crystal Chronicles would have been most appropriate. Sure, there's a very small chance that Nintendo would take issue with a Crystal Chronicles character appearing on a Sony platform, but I don't think they have any rights to what is still SE IP. Sure, it could be said that KH was the first decent FF crossover (even though they functioned more as cameos), but CC is an homage to FF as a whole, so both franchises have similar points in favor.

So why a KH Moogle over the clearly superior CC Moogle? We have to refer back to the fact that this even if they never end up making a sequel, the KH team loves to set themselves up for sequels just in case. And, though I personally don't like it, I'm sure they are biased toward KH. And then it all falls into place; they are setting up for a sequel, and they included the Moogle from the game that they want cameos from in the next installment. And it's obvious from the evidence that they wanted Sora instead of, idk, Yuri or Layle. And let's face it, Sora's just a more developed character, not to mention more popular. And since the game was based off the KH battle system--hell, it was originally meant to be a KH spinoff, you could say that the game was made for him.

So, it's a win-win for them. The original Dissidia plot left little to the imagination, so throwing in a few well-placed cutscenes with a mysterious Moogle--that just so happens to be from KH--would leave enough unanswered to beg for a sequel without ruining the game as a whole. If they make a sequel, then they already have a prime candidate for a new addition (Sora). If they don't, then fans still get a cameo from FF's second most memorable mascot, and SE gets a chance to release an International version in Japan.

In short: yes, it's just a KH Moogle cameo, but it means a lot more.
