It's been weeks since Final Fantasy IV: The After years was released as a downloadable title for WiiWare in North America. Until now, not much has changed on it's site.
But Preceeding the release of three new expansions to the game- Yang's Tale, Palom's Tale, and Edge's Tale for July 6th, the English site has been bumped with content. First off, the tales section has of course been updated. You can now read a brief synopsis for the tales of Rydia, Yang, Palom, and Edge, as well as gawk at some lovely art renditions by Akira Oguro. Something is happening to the World of Final Fantasy IV! In the characters' section, everyone's profile is unlocked save for Edward, Porom, Harley and The Man in Black. The new updates being Rydia, Cid, Luca, Yang, Ursula, Palom, Leonora, Edge, Gekkou, Zangetsu, Izayoi, and Tsukinowa. The Returning character profiles all recap the reader on their current affairs, while there are many new characters introducing themselves for the very first time as well. In addition to more art by Amano and Oguro, the Profiles also contain hints at each character's special abilities. Finally, A trailer has been added to the site, showcasing some slick 2d/3d animation and for the first time, reveals gameplay of the game to Western eyes. The Music is reminiscent to the opening FMV sequence of the DS remake of the original. And Text boxes are in it's simpler form from the days of it's SNES release, and lack the character avatars of the GBA remake. Whether or not that any special events occuring in the GBA remake will carry on in this game is still a mystery. FINAL FANTASY IV: The After Years | SQUARE ENIX

Wow thanks for the post Garland. You know, I can get this game, but unfortunately for me, I don't have a working wireless router to download it. I finally beat FF2 and now I am ready to take on this sequel of FFIV. I just wanna go back to the leveling system that doesn't make you work like a dog just to get stronger.
Other than that, the game looks good, but I wonder how you will play the game? I mean, it says it's in episodes, so does that mean that you play with different characters at different points in the game untill they all come together, or do you play different downloadable epsiodes that later come together by means of a final downloadable episode where you get to transfer all the data from the previous episodes? It seems rather confusing.

WOW Raymond! I'm in the exact same position that you are, except that I also lack a Wii. I too am in need of getting a wireless router, Can't seem to play my DS, PSP or PS3 online without one, and of course access its online stores. I'm planning on getting a Wii shortly after, simply because SE is starting to migrate some better games over there.
Lady Lamont helped clear up some questions I had about the mechanics of the Wii store, Wireless Routers, etc. Some of which can be seen in the thread: Should Garland buy a Wii. And like you, I have no idea how games like that actually work, since I have yet to have any experience with them. I could assume that it works on a similar line to how Before Crisis did; in that you play in chapters and progress in the story as more chapters become available. Though I cannot be sure of this, it may be that this system is far more complicated, the site implies that you download The After Years as a core game, and other chapters are optional, which seems a bit odd. Funny you should also say that you've been playing II. On my list of "things to play before Dissidia", I had the idea of running through II right after I finished the bonus dungeon on V. II has got to be the only title that i've played through from scratch for the third time, It's experience system is so frustrating, that Iif you don't plan everything right, you can get screwed in the end. I think I have a save track on my GBA cartridge with me on my second play through towards the tower level, but it's been so long, and the story is only completed to an extent where it may be better to refresh my memory by playing it again. Well, we'll see.

Yeah, but for me, seeing as how I have had the game since it came out back in 2004 I just now beat it. Yes it took me 5 years just to beat FFII (anyone here can add a pun to this sentence, please do). And yeah, a lot of good games are coming to the wii lately, not just S.E. Let me tell you, we do not and I repeat DO NOT need more party games on the wii. All we need is mario party and [wii] sports. That's it. But enough ranting about bad games, yeah this I can't wait to play. FFIV Avanced was the second game that I played and beat, it had a wonderful story, gameplay was right there, and it made me continue to like Final Fantasy as a whole. And yeah, if I were to get anyother system, it would probably be the PSP, but I am not getting the remakes of I and II, seeing as how I already have those games on the GBA. And another thing, I agree with you when I say that FFII had the hardest and longest to level up stats in the game. Seriously, I was way overpowered by the time I went to hell to kill the emperor with Firion, Maria, and Guy and Leon was just following behind. But then again, I had spent about 70+ hours just trying to get better stats even when abusing the SWAP magic. In conclusion, I am never palying FFII again. It was a good game, but just way to time consuming and hard to level up stats.
Oh, btw, love the signature pic. Just don't get why little Kuja is showing his...panties (?) off. XP

I must say, having the site up make me feel much less indifferent about this game. I still won't buy it because I don't want SE to think that making spinoffs is okay, but it doesn't look terrible. The music is nice enough, and the art is clean, and overall it does its job of bringing back the nostalgia.

Agreed with Ray, Much love to the Final Fantasy For Advance compilation. IV advance was way superior to the DS version in terms of bonus content and translation, and the same goes for the Dawn of Souls version of I and II being far more efficient then the PSP titles, if not only for the fact that the GBA was able to squeeze both games into one Chip.
So, by "Beating ff II" does that mean you also beat the trial of souls dungeons? Where you supposedly get to play as all the dead characters in the underworld? If not, then I guess you havn't beaten it yet :P ok, pun time : It took you Five years just to do #2 (poop jokes are lame -_-)

Yeah, I beat "Souls of Rebirth" but that itslef was rather tedious itself just to get all of my other guys (meaning scott, minwu, and joseph since ricard was already a beast by the time he died) leveled up just to beat the emperor again. And another thing, why does the ligh half have 25000 HP? His dark side had only 15000, so what gives?
Actaully, that poop joke works...surprisingly enough.

Upon looking at this game in more depth, I approve. It's a sequel done in the spirit of the original, which imo, while not perfect, is the best way to go about things. Might even consider playing it...

well the battle system is awesome, even though there's only one phase of the moon that's actually useful.but yeah man,the difficulty is just right, the story (so far) is pretty solid, the music is nostalgic, the game's pretty good.i reccomend to all wii owners/FF fans who have a wii.
