Default Dissidia Count Down: News on Final Fantasy I

Dissidia's English release is not too far away, and of course, the first to get bumped with content is the original Final Fantasy I. To commemorate this event, IGN and Gamespy have split up on doing seperate profiles for the polar opposites of the Heroes and Villains.

IGN has taken on narrating the Warrior of Light, and though nothing said about him is particularly new, a further scroll down the page, and you are led to a link of a gameplay video, featuring a montage of story elements and gameplay footage of the Warrior of Light Vs. Garland... In English!
Of course, if having Garland's ass handed to himself is not your style, you can always follow the site page down to Gamespy's article, where you can find a gameplay video dedicated to the Fallen Knight himself.

IGN Advertisement

Garland's Voice actor is uncanny. They have picked the English actor for Louise Armstrong of Full Metal Alchemist. Un surprisingly, since the Japanese version used the Japanese Actor of the same role.
I'm a bit disapointed to not hear mention of the iconic "Knock you all down!" phrase anywhere, and for Garland's Tornado attack to be translated as "Cyclone". But we will see in time, I may grow to like him.

Speaking of the First Final Fantasy, the game is schedualed to be ported AGAIN, this time to the playstation Network's online store. But fear not, this version is for all of you old schoolers, as following the recently announced Final Fantasy Tactics (the original PSX version not the Lion Wars Remake) Final Fantasy will be available for download in all it's 8 bit glory.

Yeah, I saw this yesterday, well actually, listened to it. I turned away cause I don't want to see all these attacks of theres cause I actually like to find things out as I play. The voice of Warrior of Light didn't sound too bad, though I wish he had a bit more of a gruffier voice, a bad example I know, though I guess if he had to sound like somebody from an anime, like Yughio when he transformed everytime he played cards.

That aside, there has been a lot of FFXIII scans out lately with news on action figures and other stuff, lots of pics. I'm surprised you haven't posted them yet.

EDIT: Hey, that's Chris Sabat, like, Dragonball Z Chris Sabat, it sounds exactly like Piccolo.

I don't mind it though it doesn't sound like he's in a suit of armour, they need that sort of echo that Gabranth and the other judges had on XII. Not enough to drown the voice out, but enough to make it sound like his mouth is covered. It's pretty cool though.

I do hope there will be more diversity between the heroes though. WoL should have had a deeper voice, Cecil should have, but they can't change that now, and Zidane should have sounded a bit younger.

Though generally it's all not bad except for Kuja who sounds totally weird. I imagined he's sound more like Seymour.

Yeah, the Japanese Garland never had a Helmet Echo either, so I guess the English VA team thought it better to not out do them -_-.
Nothing really new is in the videos, or nothing spoilerific anyways, but I commend you for being the honorable few who will WAIT to play the game in it's official english release instead of spoiling it by getting used to the Japanese version.

I've heard about XIII getting some action figures and "Dolls", but I could never find any source links or pictures etc. If you wish to post this news be my guest!

Yeah, I don't see the point of buying a version you can't understand ? Though if you understand Japanese I guess it's ok.

Seriously though, how much better would Garland sound if he had the helmet echo? He sounds a little odd to me only because I watch a lot of Dragonball Z, though his voice isn't bad it will take a few more listens to get into the zone.

lol fair enough Reverse Gaia, It's just I get alot of people on other sites spazzing about how good the Original Japanese sounds in comparison, despite what English dub they're listening too they always say that... If anything this dub sounds too much like the Japanese one. You can even tell that they kept the tone of voices the same. When Garland wins the combat, his last final attack phrase, which sounds like "Miserable Kids..." sounds almost identical to JP Garlands final phrase.

A solution to the lack of Garland's Helmet echo could be due to his helmet design. It has an odd open mouth piece similar to some ancient samurai face guards, one could assume that his voice is freely travelling through that gap, of course that would also assume that his face is complete black xD
Also it's a pathetic attempt to cover for lazy vocal FX. I'm sure Golbez, Exdeath and even Dark Knight Cecil will also lack that precious Helmet Echo. I believe Gabranth doesn't even wear his helmet save for his exmode.

Garland to me now doesn't sound as evil as I had hoped. Perhapse it's his VA's previous roles, but he sounds instead like a brash old Knight (Which he is in a way) and the WoL sounds like an upstart knight with a fairy tale ettiquette.
Garland says things like "Know your limit, Imbecile!"
While the Warrior of Light says things like, " I place my honor in my sword, good sir, have at thee!"

Yeah, if you've watched Dragonball Z then it would mostly match Piccolo. I also had hoped his voice would be a little more interigating and malicious though. But pretty good. I just hope the scripting isn't too bad.

He was Piccolo too!? Heh, yeah i can see that. I was used to him as Alex Louise Armstrong from FMA, all those "Tuyaghhhh" Sounds remind me of him alot. I keep expecting him to flex his muscles and brag about the "Armstrong family name" all the while stars sparkle over his head. xD

I think he was also A knight and a few Yoma in the anime Claymore. Have you see that show? GREAT anime, go watch it. I think he's using that attitude in this.
Also correction: Cyclone is the proper translation, not Tornado, so they did get it right. I kept thinking of FF VI's Tornado, which probably is one of Terra's attacks. If you want a Hint about Garland's attacks, just youtube a battle with Chaos from The FF I remakes xD

He was not only Piccolo, but Yamcha, Vegeta, Zarbon, Kami, etc etc etc. He was about 30 characters throughout the three Dragonball series. But yeah, I picked his voice up in an instant.

I might check it out, thanks Garland.

whatever man, people compare jap. to dub,or rather vice versa, way to often.that's probably why most people don't like zidane's dub voice,i tought it was damn near perfect, not too deep, but deep enough since he was 16 YEARS OLD.also,i used to play and watch DBZ all the time as a kid and i still couldn't for the life of me compare garland's voice to armstrong (throwin in some FMA) or piccolo.

I wonder if they'll release voices by week but the thing I wonder most is if they'll keep ad-hoc/ad-hoc party or switch to infrastructure for online play hm...

I hope so, I've been itching to see the montages of Firion and the Emperor lately... I've just completey owned the hell out of FF V, and since theres nothing more to do there, I think I'll try to finish II... You think I should start from scratch, my current file is half way through...

I used to get about 3/4 into a FF game and start over again. Like when I got into space in FF8 and started again cause I wasn't strong enough, or when I couldn't beat the monster before the final Kuja battle in FF9.

Start again, it's fun, besides you might have forgotten a lot of what is going on so it might be good to get into the zone from the beginning.

Despite what others say, I actually like FF5. I mean, a lot of the game is "go here, now go here" but I kind of liked it.

Will they enable it so that a version from NA can play against a version from Europe? Cause me and my 2 brothers will get it, but if anybody else ends up buying it I'd like to play them too. We might think about importing from NA seeing how the European version is likely to be the same anyhow.

Yeah, I sometimes ran into those problems too, worst possible example: Seymore Flux... Final Fantasy V is a pretty fun game, and one of the most hilarious in my opinion thanks to the bad puns and the walking one himself, Gilgamesh... Unless you meant that remark about II. In which I also agree, it had a good story and the theme is similar to IV and VI which are some of my favorite titles. So yeah, I just started my file over, and this time i'm doing the cheap way of leveling up with it's shtty system, and it's working. Also, i'll make sure to keep the blood sword now.

Anyway, I don't know the complete fundamentals of Ad Hoc, but I do know that WiFi is globally online, so You're version should be just as compatible with anyone elses online. Plus the PSP is universal, hence why people download Japanese games on it.

Nope. Not even close to the worst possible example, at least for X. Battle with Sin. Just as debilitating (no way to level), but literally with only about 5% of the game left it's the last boss at a point of no return. :P

FF5 was funny, especially with Bartz and Galuf when they found out that Faris was a lady. Though yeah, it had a very "go here now go there" story to it, but I got over that. It had a great battle and job system.

NO, FFX, the most excrutiating part for me was on the way to Bevelle to stop Yuna from marrying Seymour....Evrae. You can't level up at all, and he keeps thrashing you. I didn't restart the game there, but I had so much trouble, I think I beat him on my 20th attempt, and it's stopped my brother from playing it even further cause he sure can't beat Evrae.

What I mean about Dissidia is for example, if I import from NA and my brother buys it when it his Australia, will we be able to fight each other? I'd assume they would, though I've heard of a few cases with other games. Though I love how the PSP lets you import games

I think it still does no matter if its eng/AU since they are the same

@Garland you dont know what Ad-hoc is? Well it's like sending information via peer to peer but it's more secure in a way because you connect directly to the player in the vicinity of your device not across the net....(took a class on it trying to be a Computer Tech :P)

Yeah, that's how I'd verse my brothers, Ad-Hoc. Try to imagine it as like how gameboys connected with the link cable, except now the link cable is gone and it's done wireless.

But Im wishing they switch to infrastructure type so i can fight people across the states and ocean but knowing them not going to happen well good thing I have a ps3 to guide the ad-hoc...hey is it me, I have a feeling Vic Mignogna is going to voice onion knight or kick sam regal and take Zidane's voice upon himself
