Default GC 09 interviews for Final Fantasy XIV

Two more videos have surfaced on Gametrailers, detailing an interview with the creators of Final Fantasy XIV Online for the Playstation 3 and Windows PC.

In the interview, it is said that the old "job system" of XI will be scrapped for a newer "Skill system" which at present seems to focus less on leveling up the individual character but instead on leveling the equipment he or she has equiped, and subsequently their skills.

Team chat speak has been suspended at the moment for various reasons, but the game is said to encompass all new FMV cutscenes within the gameplay itself.

The director has still not disclosed anything on the "Fee" for the game, saying it's up in the air about whether or not that may be an issue, but the developers do say that the game's target audience is for not only Final Fantasy XI fans or even MMORPG fans, but Fans of the Final Fantasy series and first timers to the Multiplayer experience as well.

I'm glad that they're aiming it to the likes of me, I'm not a MMORPG fan or a FFXI fan (only because of the MMORPG thing ;P) So I can't wait

Actually...not to put down your news post, Garland, but....

This literally just came out on internet....
Quote:
Final Fantasy XIV will have a monthly subscription model when it releases next year. That’s according to producer for the MMO, Hiromichi Tanaka, who was speaking to VG247 at GamesCom.

“It’s going to be 30 days-based subscription,” said Tanaka.
The game is due in 2010 for PS3 and PC, but don’t quite rule out a 360 version yet. Tanaka-san revealed that talks with Microsoft are held up for the game because of the policy of Xbox Live.

If it does come, it wont be at launch as the PS3 will have it as a console exclusive during the “launch timing”, something SCEA president Jack Tretton forgot to mention during the announcement for the game at E3.

Having to pay every 30 days is crap. If it was like $2 then who cares, but when you do the math on some of these online games you're wasting a lot of money each year to play the same game, not to mention you then have to buy expansion packs.

Are there any PSN games you have to pay for to play online? I don't know of any yet, or just haven't come across them.

It does suck, but SE and Playstation has been doing poorly due to their price here in US. They have to make money some how.
(You people aren't crying over the Xbox fees lol)

The monthly subscription fees are really the turn-off for me. A Final Fantasy MMO is great, but having to pay every single month like WoW means I won't get it.
