A Final Fantasy spin-off cancelled
Swedish video game developer GRIN closed its doors last month, citing bankruptcy. One of their titles in development before the closure was a game for Square Enix, code-named "Fortress". It appears to have been a Final Fantasy spinoff. Take a look at the concept art and you'll see the Chocobo.
Creative Uncut - "Fortress" (canceled game) Art / Pics / Pictures / Images So what was it? By a guess and its medieval appearance it looks something similar to the Final Fantasy Tactics world. Would have been great to see what this game evolved into.

I heard about this a while ago, looks interesting, great concept art
I'm just wondering how a company other then SQUARE-ENIX were making a Final Fantasy game....?
