Default Game Magazines

There are many magazines that cover the world of video games. I've skimmed over many, but I only subscribe to two: GameInformer and Nintendo Power. What kind of game magazines do you guys subscribe to?

I used to get Game Informer. I received a free subscription when I got my discount card for Gamestop. I didn't re-subscribe though. I can't really say I'm that into them just because I can usually find everything in them on the internet for free, so I don't see why I ought to pay for it.

But the pictures are quite pretty.

By and large I don't read game magazines. There's already enough hype as it is, and game magazines tend to consist of nothing but hype. Although, like Ex Deo, I used to subscribe to Game Informer, and waaaaay back in the day I used to subscribe to Nintendo Power.

used to subscribe to Nintendo Power. Still subscribe to Game Informer. Though they do liven the hype, they do have good articles and what not. And every once in a while, I'll pick up a PSM or Xbox magazine.

Whenever i do get computer magazines they mainly are the PS2 ones like OPM and PSM2. To be honest though, most info can be quickly got hold of on the Net- trailers, demos, news.

I don't subscribe, I just buy them instead.

Since EGM is huge, it's no problem finding them in stores.

But I do really miss Ultra Game Players magazine from the mid-late 90's. Bill Donahue's The Jaded Gamer articles made me laugh all the time.

i used to think GamePro was good, but not anymore. its too short and it isnt worth the cost.
EGM and GameInformer are currently my favorites and somewhat reliable sources.
i got a question for everyone: do any of you ever find typos or errors in game magazine? i catch them all the time. but they're usually minor.

And GamesTM hasn't? I'm just glad the original editor is back on board. GamesTM has always been, for the most part, a lazy read in comparision to EDGE.

Then again, they're the only two credible gaming magazines on the planet.

Unlike the majority of magazine on the market, GameTM is run by an experienced crew of mature gamers whose knowledge spans further back than the last Final Fantasy game. The magazine is a light-hearted read for the most part, with a relaxed but professional editorial style. It's boosted also by a 30 page retro section in every issue.

EDGE is geared as a serious videogame culture magazine. It relies on solid, informed reports on the industry and new releases, and often delved into discussion on gaming design theory. It never focuses on hype or speculations for it's stories and articles. It's unquestionably the most professional gaming magazine on the planet, though sometimes it tries a little too hard to be "smart".

The other magazines on the shelves? They were a great read... when I was ten.

Never said anything along those lines so don't twist my words. gamesTM is far from perfect but out the two I prefer reading that although EDGE is better as a serious read, in the end those are the only one's I would consider buying or reading anyway. Rest of them are too biased for their own good and just looks more unprofessional because of that. I mind often in Nintendo's Official Mag the team referring to the PS and PS2 as the 'GreyStation' and PlayStation Poo', creative geniuses I feel.

I don't subscribe, but I buy Official Nintendo Magazine. The staff writer and deputy art editor are friends of mine, as is the new editor but I don't see him as often. I prefer the more lighthearted aproach and Nintendo is my preffed company of the "big 3" so its best for info from them. It should be getting better this year with the new editor, he is very PR friendly so gets loads of exclusives and will no doubt be the first for news on No More Heroes which looks like its going to be an awesome game. (I also mod their forums lol)

I don't buy anything else, don't see the point and its a lot to shell out nowadays. The internet works just as well. Aside from Nintendo, I only tend to pay close attention to RPGs and the net loves RPGs so you'll always find stuff here XD

I did have a subscription to PlayStation Magazine, but for some reason they stopped print. I've been having to rely solely on Game Informer ever since.
