Default Games Companies

What game companies or developers are amongst your favourite ones and why? What makes them stand out from the other ones out there? Are they known for particular franchises or leaders in genres etc? If you see a game is developed by a particular company does it sway you and your opinion into adding it to your collection?

I've always liked Blizard. They always deliver quality, only bad thing about them is that they are always late.

In later years, Atari has been one of my fav gaming companies, with games as Neverwinter nights 1 and 2 and The temple of elemental evil.

Irrational Games. Everything they do is gold.

Double Fine. Because the have Schafer.

Q Entertainment. For Tetsuya Mizuguchi.

Bioware. For RPG goodness.

Insomniac Games. Ratchet and Clank rules.

Clover Studio (which is now Seed).

And a few others I can't think of at the moment.

Squaresoft was pure gold back in the day. S-E is still pretty good with their most important games, but their not so big titles usually end up being pretty bad.

Level 5 is probably my current favorite company, they have not made a bad game yet.

Team Ico is excellent for their ability to make games that are pure art.

Nintendo is good at making killer apps, even if they are few and far apart.

Capcom is great at making action games that really keep you on your toes (DMC, RE)

Epic makes some of the best FPS ever.

Squaresoft for one. They had great games back in the day.

Capcom, because Megaman was pure awesome, as is Devel May Cry.

Konami solely for the Metal Gear Solid series, one of my favourite gaming series currently.

Ubisoft for the Tom Clancey games. Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six is awesome. Ghost Recon to.

Rockstar are my favourite games company. mainly for the Max Payne series.
SE rescued themselves with FFXII. thank ****.
Eidos for hitman and tomb raider

i should also probably mention lucasarts, even though the best star wars games are the ones they don't make themselves.

Lucasarts may be in a bit of a rut these days but I remember the good old days of Monkey Island and Grim Fandango.

man cannot live on retro alone.

even though most companies have fluctuating quality levels, the lack of quality SW games always hits me hard because it SHOULD be the easiest license to have. all you have to do is NOT make a **** game and fans are happy.

I've always had a soft spot for Ubisoft. They usually make quality games.

Square for Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger
Capcom for Street Fighter, Marvel VS Capcom, Strider Hiryu, Phoenix Wright, and other awesome games
I could say Bungie because I still hold a place in my heart for Halo 1
Konami for Metal Gear Solid
Namco for Katamari Damacy, Soul Calibur, and the Tales Series, specifically Symphonia

Lastly, I hope to love Mistwalker =')

Square-Enix: duh
Ubisoft: Usually the games from these guys are pretty good. THey also make the Splinter Cell games.
Zipper Interactive: The creators of the SOCOM series. And even though that seems to be the only game they make, they do a damned good job at it.

Square-Enix
- because although lately they've been spewing out a lot of garbage, they still release a top notch game at relatively the same rate as they used to

Capcom
- I have a feeling this gen of gaming is going to be really good for Capcom, they never really stood out before for me but they have some great titles coming out / have come out.

Konami
- Purely for the genius that is Metal Gear Solid

Insomniac
- Very impressed with a few of the games they've been putting out, namely Ratchet and Clank and Resistance.

Konami for the Pro Evolution Soccer games, best foot game you can get
Eidos for Champ Manager
Blizzard/Black Isle- Baldurs Gate series on PC.

Team Ico - For giving a hormonally driven industry some dose of artistic credibility.

Clover Studios (R.I.P) - For proving there's still a place for unique, creative gaming experiences.

Nippon Ichi - For revitalising the SRPG genre.

Seeds - For continuing Clover Studios' legacy.

E.A. - For bringing pillars of innovation to sports game... even if they rehash them every year afterwards.

LucasArts - Back in the good old days when they used to make good games.

I used to be a huge fan of Bungie and Square Enix, but their recent output has been rather less consistent than the stuff that made me into a huge fan. So Konami and Maxis, with the caveat that I haven't played any games released by the latter in aaaaaaaages.
