PSP redesign confirmed

Sony's UK boss Rat Maguire has confirmed that like the PS1 and PS2 a redesigned PSP is in the works, there won't be any changes to the hardware just a reduction in size and weight similar to the DS Lite.

Don't know how well this would work, the screen won't change size and that dominates the console itself so I can't see how much it could decrease in size. A change with the controls would be welcomed by me since the D-Pad and control nub are pretty crappy as well as a possible price reduction by using cheaper technology.

Would this make any of you reconsider getting a PSP or is it a pointless exercise?

Oooooo price reduction ^_^ Thats th only bit I'm really interested in =P

I put off getting one originally because it was a little pricey and there was nothing that decent for it, but this may tempt me to get one!

A price drop wasn't mentioned in the report, it was just a suggestion from me so don't get your hopes up that much. If there is a price reduction it'll most likely be with the original model.

well finally theres a redesign. hopfully theres a price drop. i'd defiinatly consider buying one.

If anything the PSP needs two more trigger buttons (L2 and R2) and another analog nob. Other than that the PSP is perfect the way it is. It doesn't need to be the first iteration of anything. Its already as small as the DS Lite, packs more gadgets in it, and has more uses.

The only thing Sony's looking to do is save on production costs.

The only thing preventing me from buying a PSP is that its ****ing almost $300. What a rip off.

Hopefullly I win a PSP in the Sony Motorstorm content thingy in a few days

As far as a price drop goes I doubt it. Sony's been losing money from producing PS3s, they're trying to find a way to balance the scale. Its going to be newer and smaller, so its going to be a commodity, so I doubt they'll do a price drop.

The only thing preventing me from getting a PSP is the price. There aren't that many games that I really need to fork over that much money for. After I buy my laptop in the next month or two, I'll probably pick one up. That or a 360.

A price drop is what happened to the original DS system after the release of the DS Lite so there's no reason why the same can't happen here, doubt it'll suddenly drop by a large amount of course but it's still possible and would help more to convince people to buy it rather than a simple redesign.

Well I already have a PSP, but what was keeping me from getting one before was the price. Then came Christmas when money doesn't matter. I don't see how much they could redesign it. Making it smaller would be nice, but the screen would need to be smaller to and I like having a big screen. D:

What I would love is a second analog stick like Auron suggested. In games like MPO where you have to rotate the camera angle with the d-pad, which happens to be above the stick, while you're running, it gets tedious and difficult.
