Arrow I wanna beat children

I found out the other day that a guy I work with's 5 year old son has a level 38 warrior on WoW, apparently this is quite an achievement, though personally I wouldn't know because I've never played it.
Also the story in the news a few years ago about the 4 year old who beat Goldeneye on the N64 on 00agent difficulty makes me wonder, can you beat the kids at videogames?

They've schooled me so far. I went through about a quarter of Final Fantasy X without using the Sphere Grid system, because I didn't like it and thought it was complicated and useless. Ended up really screwing myself over on that one and had to restart the game.

That and I can't play Goldeneye for ****, nor can I afford ( like I'd want to ) a World of Warcraft subscription, so. . . They've got me beat.

I don't care if they beat me. It doesn't really matter to me.

Gotta love the title of this thread.

The older I'm getting, the harder I seem to be finding it to play well at videogames. Stuff I could clear as a teenager with lots of practise is a difficult chore now when I go back to them, and I even get beaten by some kids even when I *try* to play well.

Still, nobody can kick my ass at Virtua Fighter 4. And if that ever changes, I might just end up jumping off a bridge.

The little whipsnappers are getting good these days and it's really disheartening. Though I can stil clear some tough games, the fact of the matter is I was better in my younger years and some of those kids today can be called the Nintendo Kid or the Sony Kid because they really boogle my mind.

Even though I don't play them often, I find I can beat any kid at a racing game like GT4 or Need for Speed (these are the only two I ever play, all the rest are **** :P), even my 12 year old cousin who plays need for speed religiously, and I'm quite proud of that fact.

Kids are too good for me at FPS's though. I just can't seem to beat them. ever.

I used to play SOCOM all the time, and once in a while you'd get a little kid who comes in. Usually these kids aren't that good. I did see a video of an 8 year old who played a GH2 song on extreme difficulty, taking time to turn his back to the screen and look at the camera for a few seconds every now and again. This kid would school me at GH2 several times over on the first song. But it makes you kind of wonder. As older players we've had "time behind the wheel" so to speak, so we're experienced because of all the playing we've done over the years. When you get little kids who start playing as well as the big boys, you begin to wonder just how much time they're actually spending on video games.

I thought maybe a few hours a day, but that's completely off. I've played a couple hours a day for years, and these kids are catching up. They'd have to play for several hours each day to pull themselves up to the same level, which is probably what they're doing. Its probably also the fact that we grew up with Mario, and the closest thing we had to an FPS at the time was Duck Hunt. These kids are growing up with Halo and God of War, however odd that may seem.

The more complicated games get, the quicker the kids have to adapt to it, and so they learn it quicker than us. Plus, kids soak up any information or new skills like a sponge, so it's only natural that they'd get better than us experienced gamers so quickly. And the ones that play games for multiple hours a day, well, we ain't got a snowballs chance in hell of beating them.

I think that it's more of a time issue. The way I see it, they're kids and they have a lot of free time to play and practice. Don't get me wrong though, I still give them all a lot of credit for what they achieve because of their practice. They will notice though that as they grow much, get a job, and go to college, they will have less time for gaming. I have a 12 year old brother that I play against all the time in games like NBA 2K7, Project Gotham, Gears of War, etc. Dispute what most would think about his age, he gives me a lot of competition, and I been gaming for 12 years now. So yea...kids can do some impressive things.

My younger friend always kicked my ass in my own game Dead or Alive 2. I had owned and played the game like half a year and then my friend comes over and plays and guess what...the ****er winns. After that time I never picked it up again.
