Default Manhunt 2 Banned In The UK

The BBFC have refused to classify the game and have made it illegal to supply Manhunt 2 in Uk shops. They have refused it due to its "unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone... which constantly encourages visceral killing with exceptionally little alleviation or distancing".

More on the story from IGN:

BBFC director David Cooke director said that to issue a certificate to Manhunt 2 "would involve a range of unjustifiable harm risks, to both adults and minors, within the terms of the Video Recordings Act, and accordingly that its availability, even if statutorily confined to adults, would be unacceptable to the public".

He went on to explain that it was a decision that hadn't been taken lightly and normally the board would "try to consider cuts or, in the case of games, modifications which remove the material that contravenes the BBFC's guidelines." However, because the violent themes run so deeply throughout the game the BBFC couldn't recommend cuts that would allow Manhunt 2 a UK release, although Rockstar does have the right to appeal against the decision.

"Manhunt 2 is distinguishable from recent high-end video games by its unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone in an overall game context which constantly encourages visceral killing with exceptionally little alleviation or distancing. There is sustained and cumulative casual sadism in the way in which these killings are committed, and encouraged, in the game."

DAMN YOU JACK THOMPSON! DAMN YOU!

In all seriousness though, that does suck. I guess the crime of bootlegging in the UK and torrent sites will be heavily visited upon the game's release date then

Manhunt 2 is pretty ****ed in its current state with Ninty and Sony banning it from their consoles after being classified AO in the US, Ireland and Australia have also outright banned it. I can't see Take 2 actually scraping the game and I'll expect either an edited version of the game to be made or a PC release.

Ole' Jack would be pleased by all this BS I'd imagine anyway.

The situation with this game is just a mess right now.

Take Two managed to get their appeal through and get the game unbanned, but now the BBFC are going to the high-court and attempting to overturn the decision of their own appeals committee!

It's a freaking soap opera.
