Default High Scores

I'm just wondering. Ever since my early NES days, there has been a high score that's set in the game. I never really paid attention to that. I never found high scores useful at all, really, especially during those NES times where you score is erased as soon as the power goes off, or even if the game is reset. To be honest, the only score I cared about was Duck Hunt, but that was quite a while ago.

Did it blow your minds when you got a high score or is it worthless to you, too?

Well whenever I have a highscore I don't care for it at all, it sometimes annoys me. But whenever I get a game that like a demo without a hightscore I get so iritated and really want a highscore.

btw Tyler I LOVE your sig. It's so fun to watch.

Yea i believe that because of the whole highscore, #1 thing, it keeps you into the game more. For example, Batman is the leader in most of the Arcade games here and i want to beat his scores so i play the games to be #1, the same with other console games. And espically now where there's xbox live and everyones score is recorded and ranked together. To put it all, it gives you another reason to play the game.

High scores have a much better role at arcades and such. There'll be people there, playing. Trying to beat GLC in Frogger.

The scores anywhere else don't mean donkey dick. If it's online play and the score is quite high, it's same to assume THEY'RE USING A GAME GENIE.

Watch it with the proper background music. It accentuates the sig, or something.

Some high scores are pretty pointless. Never payed attention to my score in the NES Mario games for example. That was mostly for 1Ups or whatever.

But in most instances scoreboards help add a sense of competition, and since I'm the sort of person who likes to play to win most of the time, it is sort of a goal to beat my own score, if not the highest score. Probably why I was addicted to even the arcade at the old Trinity forum. Except Tetris. God I suck at Tetris.

But these days I'll mostly vent my urge to win in games like Halo rather than old school arcade games. Real-time competition.

I know that's really wierd. Now I can double and triple rep. Watch I'll +rep Vivi 3 times.

But anyway, the type of high scores like that are on the games in our arcade are the only tyoe that I want sometimes.

I never really cared about high scores, because i rarely had anyone to compare my results with. I was almost the only gamer among my friends.

Dude, I'm STILL #1? **** guys, you all suck.

And yeah highscores matter to me, I near cried when my computer crashed taking away all my beautiful scoring runs of PCB with it. Highscores make things exciting or else I'd just be bored with playing the same old crap.

I just realised the NES games had high scores. D:

I suppose if I were to care, it'd be Duck Hunt I'd be thinking about. Just so I can show how badass I am.

I hated that about duck hunt, it made me soooo mad, especially on the clay shooting one when you get through the first 10 level without missing one, have an awesome score, and then can't proove it to your 4th grade friends....lameness
