Whats Worse than a Fanboy?

A Negative Fanboy.

First of all, I have no problems with fanboys. Everyone is a fanboy of something... your country, the type of jeans you wear, a sports team, the laundry detergent you use, television stations you watch, all that fanboy means is someone with loyalty to a brand or entity. This website is based upon "fanboys" of Square-Enix video games, so naturally there will be people that are "fanboys" of consoles... The Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii namely.

And why is there anything wrong with this? Why are there so many people that hate fanboys?

Its negative fanboys that ruin everything, someone who doesn't neccessarily have a loyalty to a brand... as much as a hate-on for a brand. Point and case: Playstation 3. There is an incredible number of media outlets and individuals who have nothing much better to do than to rag on the Playstation 3, creating rumours and damaging its reputation.

Not so say this isn't also true for the Xbox 360 and Wii, there are plenty of haters for those too, but I'd say the most is for the Playstation.

Now what is the point of this? What do people achieve by just spending their time talking **** about something they don't own, have very little if any experience with? I don't go on about how much the Xbox and Wii suck, because I have only played each once or twice, so I can't really form a valid opinion on them. Why do so many morons feel the need to downtalk things they know nothing about?

To a certain extent I agree with you, but there are some fanboys who can get so annoying that you start disliking whatever they rave about as a reaction. It can't be helped really, those particular fanboys just need to learn tact

I totally agree with this. There are just those few who are a pain in the ass.

I especially dispise the type of fanboys with very narrow views and refuse to accept the obvious truth when they are proven wrong. It is also annoying when they praise a certain product (such as a game) foir everything while bashing others. Not to mention the lack of grammar and spelling associated with negative fanboys drives me nuts!

Anyway, I tend to find that 'negative fanboyism' tends to go hand in hand with fanboyism anyway (eg, most people who hate the PS3 also just happen to love the Wii, pun not intended). Really, I find this more annoying than people who simply don't like a console for reasons other than brand loyalty, even if they are rather vocal about it.

I personally like consoles in all their forms but fordifferent things. Everybody said that the Dreamcast sucked, but I think that it was great because it had the most absolutely amazing Sonic game ever created. Why can't we embrace all consoles for the good things they've brought us? Halo from X-box, FF from PS, the Zelda's from Nintendo, PC's great D&D/Forgotten Realms RPG's. They all appeal to something you like, so I say enjoy the diversity that is consoles. My dream is to have a console that will be ableto play every single game made for every single machine. The universal console if you will.

I agree aswell. Although to an extent though there is the fact that a good chunk of fanboys are in themselves negative fanboys. Their love of one console/game/etc. can develop a hatred for whatever may rival that which they have developed an obsession with. For instant the PS3/Will launch. Fanboys of both sides not only expressed joy of their consoles being released but a good chunk of them also spent time telling the other side how badly the PS3 was gonna own on the Wii and vice versa. I remember a few of those posts on here as well back when the launches were a couple of months away.

its pretty much the same attitude with all of them, pick something they like in a category ,for example xbox360, and just hate on everything else. what bothers me is how hard it is for them to admit that there are great games in every console. but what really pisses me off is the fact that they look at games for the systems they're against and only point out the negatives and automatically assume that the game sucked. they need to be more open minded, so they can enjoy all that the world has to offer.

To be fair most people can't afford to buy every console so some of them would simply rather bash the ones they can't be arsed owning out of bitterness

Everything has it's faults I'll agree. But I think the general consensus falls to where the negative fanboy that bashes things mainly out of spite. Such as "The Wii is gonna suck! PS3 all the way!" posts I saw several months back.

Fanboys will always be around as long as they keep that smallminded view that they are right all the friggin time, they won't accept others views because of this and it does come from all sides. A big reason could be as The Man as said is that they can't afford every console so they feel they have to justify to everyone that their console is better even if what other people say is a valid argument.

In the end I have no problem with people saying that the PS3 or whatever else is better but comments like "PS3 is best" with no reasoning why besides it's the PS3 is when it peeves me off.

i'm not going to argue which console is going to win salewise or whatever. but i'll have to agree. comments like "Wii is teh best! it's the cheapest and most popular one! it will win...etc" drive me crazy, and whats worse is a lot of these people cant bak up the're reasoning. i personally know people that stongly believe that Nintendo will monopolise the gaming industry within the next few year. and vice versa for Microsoft or Sony. Its the one sided bashing I hate.

i dont mind it when people back up what they say as long as its reasonable and can back it up with a valid source.
