Shoutbox Rules
|
|
I'd like to bring the following injustice to the attention of the viewers of this forum:
 |
Notice: Please avoid speaking in profanities or about inappropriate subjects. Infractions of this request will result in Shoutbox bans.
|
 |
This is a blatant attack on the right to free speech, and thereby democracy. Swearing is often used, especially on the internet, to add emphasis to a certain point. The internet is not to be taken seriously. If you're worried about younger users picking up bad language as a result of a heated Shoutbox conversation, most kids learn the whole set of swear words at school.
So why should we accommodate for hypersensitive faggots? Those who cannot bear the thought of someone reading the word "****", lest their mind shatter after being subjected to such an atrocity. We shouldn't have to censor our speech for these rat-bastard weasels. I demand that these rules be removed.

Jay probably set them there for a reason. I would think if you got something to say bad about someone. by all means take it to the rant section.
I think there's a difference between free thinking and going "**** **** ****ity ****." though.

Same with The Dude. I'm going to enforce them until they get changed though.

Silence, what does it matter if we're the ones they learn it from? Some parent isn't going to ring up and try to shut the place down.
And there's a vast difference between repulsive imagery and swearing in a casual conversation, with the use of swearing being at the lighter end of the scale.

It's one thing to ban insults and **** like that in the shoutbox; I'm fine with that. Banning all profanities and talk of sexual content seems to me to be going quite a bit too far though. Sure there's no need to spew the F-bomb all over the thing, but that's a completely different issue from warning someone just for saying "****" once, which would be perfectly legitimate under the current rules.
I'm fine with setting a content limit on the shoutbox, but banning all profanity and sexual content from it seems to be going too far

It's all about the target audience and ensuring an environment that everyone can participate in. We're trying to bring in new members, particularly of the younger sort (early to mid teens), this is a Final Fantasy website after all.
If you could guarantee that no members whatsoever might be lost due to petty ****, such as saying "****," I'd support you, but sadly, some folks are deeply offended over cussing, and may tell their kids not to come to FFE because we cuss.
As long as we don't censor ideas and complaint/dissent, the rule doesn't much concern me.

People, people, please. First off, we need to cut off on the BEEP damn profanity. 'BEEP BEEP BEEPiddy BEEP,' even as an example, shouldn't be posted, so shut the BEEP up. We shouldn't swear, you know? It's BEEPed up. Really BEEPed up. BEEP free speech, and BEEP 'no rules.'
