Default CRAP

Ok this word has been takled about for quite awhile and I think we should settle that fact of whether it's a cus word or not.

I vote it not a cus word!

no. It can be used to describe different things. Crap - the feces, crap - something not of a favorable manor, crap - unknown objects. (as in what's this crap?)

Well this example applies to just about anything that's been used in a derogatory way over the years. Curse words aren't in the dictionary just because they're fun to look up. Crap does seems nicer than some other four letter words for some reason though.

Even the Guildwars chat filter doesn't consider it a swear word (and that thing tends to be a bitch, good thing you can turn it off and swear away.)

Resulting ofc in me starting a guild -> Wrong Target [CrAP]

So no, not a swearword, more something like doh

Crap is a slang word meaning 'excrement' and is used to mean either this or, alternatively, "of low quality", but could also be, occasionally, viewed as strongly vulgar by means of scatological and sensory-provoking use of the word. Note that this word can be considered a curse word, yet is considered mild enough that even a child may use it informally.

In its latter meaning it also connotes inaccurate, of little factual substance, lies, hype, or quackery. The word is used nearly interchangeably with "****" and considered by many people to be the less offensive of the two. Still, some people find the word "crap" offensive, even if not intended to mean feces, and will use the minced oath "crud" instead.
~ Excerpt from wikipedia (Crap - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

It's just not a nice thing to say, basically. Whether referencing a subject in a crude/collective manner and discarding it, or the way it can sound somewhat emphasised in a sentence (the word is likely to be highlighted by the person on the recieving end) - it is not a sensitive way to describe something.

Ooh, the censor0r strikes back. Clue: It's the one beginning with 's'. =P

Well any human can put that on there. They can say whether or not it is a slang word on Wiki and it's not that big a thing to be modified.

Well, they are going by logic and experience cited from the world and society. Personally, I do not detect any sign of opinion or any part worth disagreeing about.

Slang: noun

1. Very informal usage in vocabulary and idiom that is characteristically more metaphorical, playful, elliptical, vivid, and ephemeral than ordinary language, as Hit the road.
2. (in English and some other languages) speech and writing characterized by the use of vulgar and socially taboo vocabulary and idiomatic expressions.
3. the jargon of a particular class, profession, etc.
4. the special vocabulary of thieves, vagabonds, etc.; argot.
~ Taken from a dictionary. Written by another human, I presume . ^^

The word 'crap' is of derogatory use. Like I said before, referencing something in a word associated with "waste", thus giving the impression that it is unimportant or something you'd rather not get in to, would not have a pleasing tone to the ears of another person. Full stop.
Myself? I've always steered clear of the word, and grew up not permitted to say it. And maybe it's just me but I think Americans are a little more tolerant of the word than the British. Round here, young school kids are likely to be frowned upon if they use the language.

Oh, and as for the modifying of wiki pages:

- Things must be based on fact or citable resources
- You can check the history page for any past conferences (actually, the page is locked so it's pretty much set in stone)
- Plus, there's always a team of mods and watchers (such as yours truly) to keep the bulls**t to a minimum. ^__~

EDIT> And seeing as the word can be used in place of 'sh!t', a potentially harsher word, yet be deemed acceptable in some cases, it can be considered something of a "light profanitive". Not too sure about it being a cuss word in itself, but it can be used to cuss: "You're so crap at this game".

Follow-up: Y'know what? After much deliberation in my lava-hot shower, I came to a point:

"I don't give a sh!t"
"I don't give a f**k"
"I don't give a CRAP"

What makes a profanitive? I know that they seem to include a certain sharpness when said. And when someone cusses/curses, they could use the word extensively throughout, like if someone breaks an object by accident (they might express their rage by using the word). Regardless of how light it may seem, it can be used in the same context as the others. Whether you get offended by it could play a part in how you view this. But, guys, I'm [this] close to voting it as a cuss word. Simply because that's what it is used for. Crap > slang > cuss > profanity
