(I didn't know where this belonged. The anime section, spam or general. I couldn't tell, I'm sorry if its in the wrong place.)
I was wondering if someone could help me translate something from Japanese to English. The Romaji is: "Tifa wa ironna tachiba wo awase motte irun desu ne. Haha no you demo ari, koibito demo ari, isshou ni tatakatte kita senyuu demo aru." The Japanese text is: "クラウドは女の友人であり、恋人であり——大切なものの象徴であり、守るべき存在だった。" So, can anyone help? Also, maybe this could be a unofficial official translator thread ![]() |

GOOGLE TRANSLATOR FTW!!! But its not always too accurate. And sometimes its just better to go with someone who actually speaks the language. Now then because I'm asian I should have an inate understanding of it... hmm *studies* yeah I've got nothing XD

I tried translators, they don't work well. I need a precise translation to be sure of what it says

You know, I did start a Japanese translation thread...
By the way, the Katakana is not Tifa at the start. It's Cloud. "クラウド・ストライフ" Is Cloud Strife, whereas Tifa would be "ティファ・ロックハート" Your Romanji is the wrong line, unless you actually know what the Romanji is then don't bother posting it. The Romanji for the line you posted in Japanese is: クラウドは女の友人であり、恋人であり——大切なものの象徴であり、守るべき存在だった。" Kuraudo ha omina no tomo dewari, hito dewari koibitro dewari —— taisetsu namo no no dewari naseinono dewari shōchou dewari, mamori beki sonzai dasuda. And it says "Cloud is a friend of that woman, he's a sweetheart and he protects everything so it can simply continue it's existence.", roughly. Of course the word used for sweetheart is often used as boyfrined in some districts of Japan. And the existence line is a tad confusing, but I just went with the general translation. It could also be translated as "He is a symbol that everything should be allowed it's own existence." (think the puppet scenario). And you really could have used Google Translator as it's working now. And as a note, I'm not translating everything that's posted up in this thread.

Thank you, Lady Lamont.
I didn't actually translate those, nor did I do the Romanji. Someone posted it saying it said something completely different than why you just posted :> Thank you again, and no, I didn't suspect you or anyone else to slave around for me I actually though we all as a group could figure out what it meant together and what other people posted. ![]() Oh, sorry. I didn't know you made a thread >.< Last edited by MagitekElite : 09-30-2009 at 08:27 PM. |

I see, well that is a direct translation of the Japanese and Kanji/Chinese characters. It's fine, it's just that I'm a tad rusty with Japanese so I had to check one of the Kanji but that translation is direct English of what it says in Japanese (albit, slightly "fixed" for English wording, but a direct translation). So that's a bit weird.

More like 95%. Just the Japanese use an odd word arrangement, so I gave it the correct English arrangement for the translation, as a translator does but that is the EXACT translation - aside from the sweetheart word could ALSO be taken as boyfriend. Not a problem Magitek.

Wow! Do you know Greek and Latin too! That must be awesome knowing different languages! :>
Yea, I was told Koibito could mean a few things. Well, I feel stupid, but I'm gonna do it again. Thank you, Lady Lamont-sensei ![]() |

Yup it can mean boyfriend/lover/sweetheart/partner depending on the suffix or prefix used. I just chose the more neutral one because of the lack of the general 'fix in the line. Ah, don't feel stupid. Not a problem.
