If you are looking for a traditional rpg you may like it, but I did not enjoy this game at all. It did not have the same feeling other SE games had. Though you may like it, this is just my opinion.

Try renting it from a video store before playing it

Unless you're extremely loyal to old-style gaming or have a very diverse gaming interests I'd say give this series a wide berth. I love the series...or did anyways, back when that primitive style of gaming was the ****. Now it's just...****, IMO. The system is so very old and inefficient. It should have matured by now but hasn't.

I'm thinking no.

The game wasn't all that bad, though I gave up about half way through. Gameplay's decent, reminds me of many other turn-based RPGs. Story's good and the characters are well developed, as well. As Sayia said, I'd rent before I buy it.

DQ9 isn't out yet. I assume you mean DQ8.

DQ5, however, is one of my favourite games of all time, but it's never been released outside Japan. If you want a link to the SNES ROM, just PM me.

Old-school gameplay with an attractive last-gen graphics makeover, if you like games like the first couple of Breath of Fires then it's for you.

I really love the DQ series as a whole, theres something very charming about the style, and the monsters are absoluely amazing! I love Slimes, they're so cute!

Its a very classic formula, so there isn't anything really new and exciting to grab you, but if you like traditional rpgs then this is fantastic, as its put together really well and flows perfectly. Its definately an enjoyable experience.

I played a demo of the most recent DQ, I wasnt that happy with the game, but I'm still open to give the game another try someday...

is it worth giving it another try is was the sample of the game the kind of way the whole game would be?

I've only played DQ8... not a bad game, really, though at one point it started to feel like it was never going to end. And I don't really dig the whole Dragon Ball cell-shaded look.

I'm about thirteen hours through it now, and it's a blast. I honestly didn't think they made games like this anymore; it's an old-school RPG done exactly the way they used to make them, apart from the graphical face-lift. Smashing soundtrack too; Sugiyama really is substantially underrated in English-speaking lands.

I'm on my third replay. This game is awesome and at the same time, doesn't screw around. It's not a simple RPG, yet it's challenging and fun.
