As for my personal favourite. That's a no brainer.

Vincent Valentine. I've always had a soft spot for his character design, it's just so aesthetically perfect. Though his story's a bit hackneyed.

Cloud all the way

Cloud is of course the poster-boy for oversized loads of burden and strife calling for a lone hero capable of delivering justice, so he's cool - of course it doesn't hurt that u're sworn to avenge the death of the guy that saved u and dawned his 5 ft long broad-buster sword either ^^

Tifa is great for her sensibility - wanting to save the planet even though she's living in the slums, the slums of the slums, running a bar.. barely making a living. Plus being sexy and powerful.

Vincent was nice as an extra character that added a nice touch to the game w/ his ability to change forms through limit breaks.

I also liked Yuffie, just as a character. She was definately a pain, when she took ur materia from ya and hid around Wutai. She's powerful if you want her to be and even though she was an optional character that you had to really pick and choose what to say to her to get her to join ur group - she became a really well known character to the series.

Red XIII was cool.. being the genetic experiment of Hojo and a talking wolf-like creature that feels cosmically obligated to save the planet, but I found his attacks kinda dull.. jumping across the screen, doing a flip and landing on the enemy? Surely they could have done better w/ the visual animation of his attack ;O

I also liked Dyne. He was a nice addition to Barret's story. I wish they would have altered the story to where he could have possibly lived and maybe been an additional character, instead of Barret.
