No way final fantasy 7 set the way for final fantasy games everywhere, it put sqauresoft back on the gaming map, and i guarentee if that game was not that good, alot of people would not be on this website right now. The story line the characters, the battle system, the summons, i mean omnislash was insane. and to put more fuel to this fire, all the extras crisis core, advent children which was absoultly wikid. they can create anything to be added onto this game and it would be wikid. I don't know about you but i can't wait till they bring out final fantasy 7 on the ps3, because you all know that will be absolutly crazy.

Yet another stereotypical Final Fantasy 7 fan. People can still love a game more than the others for the rest of their lives, but still wishing for more spin offs and so on is annyoying. You need to let go, seriously. It's bad enough Square has re-produced so many games from this title. Advent Children was good, even due to lack of story -- but again, that wasn't needed, since most of the plot was still in the game.
But there's a point when a little does a lot, the game alone, yes it did set gaming history with the biggest record of sales in it's history, but doesn't it seem that SE are now only re-producing these spin offs as a way to being the past alive? Or just for the money? Where have you read Final Fantasy 7 was coming on the PS3? That was only a tech. demo if I remember correctly for the PS3 initial release, to show people the power of the machine. But prove me wrong all the same. But in the end, I do agree VII is rock, awesomely at that.

Why do I get the impression that this was supposed to be a reply to the "FFVII: Overrated?" Thread, but became a thread in itself due to someone clicking 'new post' instead of 'new reply'?
As for this 'topic', just because something is popular doesn't automatically mean it's of a high quality. |

True it is a tech demo, I think it was on a website or a magazine where they said it was only a tech demo but they don't mind remaking the game with an extended storyline. I don't mind games like FFDoC or FFCC, but if they do make another, choose a good character who has a storyline that's kind of already made like Barret or Cid..... That is all please continue.

Not only did the website say it was a tech demo but during the video of said tech demo. It had tech demo in the back round.
As for putting Sony on the gaming map, no I think the first Final Fantasy did that. Even the story of how they got the name Final fantasy explains it. (Basically for those that didn't know where the title came from before FF, sony's previous games hadn't been selling well and they were going to make one last game before closing shop and they decided to call it Final Fantasy because it would be their final game but because the sales went through the roof of the first FF they decided to keep the title.)

It is true that FFVII was an excellent game but I don't think it set the bar for the later ones or really influenced them at all. The FF games always tend to be rather individual just sharing a few common things like chocobos or summons and the odd character name, Biggs and Wedge for example.
VII was very different from the earlier games and though VIII was similer in style being more futuristic then the earlier games it was still different. FFVII is awsome but I would not call it the single greatest game in existence I don't think any game deserves that title though some come close. |

I think that FF VII is one of the greatest but thats because i played it the most and so im kinda biased and i even think for being my absolute favorite games its getting kind of ridiculous with all the spin offs they are coming out with.

I think the spinnoffs were well done, for spinnoffs. DoC finished off the vincent stroyline, a guy no-one knows much about, and expanded a bit into yuffie's background. Advent Children... well, the storyline fits, and you gotta admit, the looks are awesome.
I can't comment on CC or BC, having played neither. |

I rather liked AC even though it was very much fanservice. But still it was good fanservice with all the wicked assed action scenes and the beautifully designed characters. The story was ****, I'll grant you that, and I can't say any of the twists surprised me but still it achieved what it was set out to do.
I'm not at all impressed with DoC. It was suppose to be a DMC lookalike yet it was nothing at all like DMC. The controls were ****, the graphics were blah, the story blah and the camera angles annoyed me. As for BC or CC like Sam I ain't seen 'em so I can't judge them.

what can i say about DoC? it was...different...but as for the original, FF7, in my opinion, has got to be the best game of all time within the best series of games, I not only think it set the foundation for all of video game history to come, but i think it set the standards for what is required to make a great game which, to this day, has not been met by ANYTHING else to be seen on or off the market

If the do a new FFVII only expands the story so it gets more "waterproof" with all the spin-offs then the game is gonna suck real hard. You can't remake it good with this new "cool" graphics. It has to keep it's warm and soft touches i''d say. Those that the new graphic can't provide.
