Meh. Green Day aren't great, but there are plenty of pop-punk bands that are way worse than them. Like, pretty much all of them.

i didn't think it was possible to do good 9 minute long punk tunes until their last album came out.

yeah, Jesus of Suburbia in particularly impressed me quite a bit. Most of that album quickly became horridly overplayed though, so even as much as I liked the political commentary I quickly got tired of it.

i've only recently felt the need to listen to it again and, now that i haven't heard it for a while, it kicks ass again.

it got played to death though.

Yeah, it happens. I'll probably get back in the mood for it in like another year. When stuff gets as overplayed as that album was it takes me a long time to recover.

I'd say Nevermind is overrated, but the rest of Nirvana's catalog gets just about as much attention as it deserves. Still, in comparison to other bands who are just as good if not better, they still receive a disproportionate amount of attention.
