I rented The Descent (original unrated cut) and had a few questions for those who have seen it yet. I'll put it in spoilers so it won't be ruined for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.
I didn't quite understand the end of the movie. It's like they all lost sense of time and it seemed like some people started hallucinating about the monsters that were killing people but at the end I got the impression that there really weren't any monsters at all. And they were so mentally altered that they were killing each other. Because in the end that blonde girl has a hallucination that she escaped from the cave alive and alone but then it flashes back to reality and she's still within the cave having an illusion about her deceased daughter's birthday. So what did you gather from it all?
|

I have a tgheory as well that I've place in spoilers since it reveals a bit of what happens.
I agree with you on this. I too, think that they have hallucinated and started to kill one another, but then how would that explain Jun's death? She was attacked by those "monsters". That's were I throw myself confused. Basically now, I think that there were beings in the cave that probably started riginaitng from people who've tried to discover the cave and make it out but failed. After the blonde girl stabs Jun in the foot and runs off, the blonde girl trips and hits her head on the ground and then supposedly wakes up and leves the cave. After her little dream ends, she wakes up to find she's still in the cave and sees her daughter. right at the end, several creatures are seen crawling her way which basically leaves us with that none of them made it out alive.
Is this the movie
where there's a group of cave divers who go into a deep chasim, discover a hyper evolved species that spreads its DNA to humans by biting them and at the end of the movie the one woman with the wierd eyes walks away and the guy knows that one got away? Or the movie about the four girls that are cave divers and go into that cave and I haven't seen the movie so that's all I know.

The ending was probably a screw up because that girl, I forgot her name, the survivor, already killed that one bat thing in the vehicle before. So, in that revelation, without having much money left from their budget, they decide to cut it off as a dream and end the movie back in the freakin' cave. If it were just hallucinations, it's just there to hold off the stupid arguing amongst each other bullcrap that I had to endure. If not, then the mauled animal carcass at the beginning of the movie would make sense.
Two of the biggest cliches in motion picture history coming together: it was allll a dream and the creature is in the vehicle with the last survivor.
I had to refrain from telling a little story involving voluntary diarrhea dumping on the DVD with my friends after watching it.

I must admit this was a great film.
I suppose it is a possibilty that there was instances of hallucinations but i tend to be believe that there were monsters. I think that it was the problems that the girls had with each other- untrust, betrayal etc that adds to this. The monsters, whether they be real or not, can be encountered, suffered, fought, eluded if the women can overcome themselves. Its a nice theme in a horror film, plus usually there is a man around to save the day etc, and even though there was one at the beginning he was quickly removed and rifts form because of it. However Sarahs fragile mind gives the possibilty that as they twist and turn in those dark tunnels our confidence in what is really going on is blurred and we might have just left reality behind. Heres a bit on info from Wiki: Alternate ending The Descent was released in North America with approximately a minute cut from the end. Sarah escapes the cave and sees Juno, but the film does not cut back to the cave. In the 4 August 2006 issue of Entertainment Weekly, it was stated that the ending was trimmed because viewers didn't like its "überhopeless finale". Lionsgate marketing chief Tim Palen said, "It's a visceral ride, and by the time you get to the ending you're drained. [Director Neil] Marshall had a number of endings in mind when he shot the film, so he was open [to making a switch]." Marshall compared the change to the ending of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, saying "Just because she gets away, does that make it a happy ending?" The North American Unrated DVD includes the original ending. The Insanity Theory Many fans of this film argue that the monsters did not exist at all. Several clues exist to support this notion, most notably that Sarah has been through an extremely traumatic experience already and has previously suffered from hallucinations. The Insanity Theory, or the "No Monsters" Theory, posits that Sarah herself either killed or left each of her companions to die. An interview with director Neil Marshall at dreadcentral.com lends further credence to the theory, as he states "...she's killed all her friends...". Marshall acknowledges this possibility in the DVD commentary, yet says that this is only one possible interpretation. The fact that a sequel is being planned may support the theory that the monsters were real
It's a wonderful film cause it's all about interpretation and not about the physical. At first, I was neutral about it because it didn't really go anywhere, but I quickly rethought through it and realized all these little things. Probably the best horror film this decade for me.

I heard that a sequel is being planned but can they pull off the same thing again? Will it be as gripping as this one?
