Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

5/10

Like someone else as said if you go into this film with lowered expectations then you should enjoy it enough, still not a particularly great movie but still had enough moments from the Surfer and Johnny as well as Galuctus which was handled well enough that for me personally it was worth seeing.

Batman 8/10

Id give this more probably as well. With all the excitement etc regarding Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, id thought id have a look back at the other Batman films, starting with Michael Keaton as Batman. I thought he was excellent, as was Jack Nicholson as Joker. I dont think you could cast anyone else in that role- good luck to Heath Ledger though- interesting to see his take on the Joker.

Some B-movie called 'Deceived'
Was supposed to be about aliens, and it turned out it was more about praying to God, so it gets a 1/10

House of flying daggers.

Gets 7 out of 10. Would have gained additional points if it had Jet Li in it, if it was English spoken and if the girl was more attractive.

But its cinematography just ruleedddd!!!!

Casino Royale. Quite a great reboot to the Bond series, even if some parts dragged on a bit too long. As it is, it's the best film in the franchise since at least Goldeneye, if not earlier. 8.5/10.

Transformers

Good movie, not great. Don't get me wrong, the film is an absolute blast to sit through, and I intend to do so again before it leaves theaters (promised my cousin I'd take him.) Nonetheless, it's not going to be winning any awards- it's Micheal Bay.

The film moves way too quickly; five minutes into the film and **** is already being blown up, it's awesome, but the pacing and plot suffers. The origins of the Autobots and Decepticons is briefly explained to Sam Witwickey, and then it's back to destroying LA and the Hoover Dam.

I have to say though that seeing the interaction between Shia Labeouf's character, Sam Witwickey, and Bumblebee was pretty moving, in a very Iron Giant kind of way. Also, they managed to slip a good deal of humor into the film, in the form of teen-angst type stuff, plus some hilarious jokes about being "lubricated" on.

It's definitely worth seeing and next to Knocked Up, it's probably the second best wide-release film released thus far this summer.

Oh, and Megan Fox is yummy.

I also saw Transformers.

My initial reaction was actually one of relief. I was so afraid they were going to eff it up, but praise the film gods they didn't. I agree that sometimes it did go a bit fast, and I wish the fight between Optimus and Megatron had lasted longer, but overall it was a very well put together film.

Bumblebee was the ****.

It's up there with my summer favorites, alongside Knocked up and Live Free or Die Hard.

Transformers 1,000,000/1,000,000

the last song they played in the movie (What I've Done-Linkin Park) is my favorite song in the world, and for being based on an old cartoon series, that was seriously the BEST movie I've EVER seen. the effects were incredible, and the battle sequences unmatchable.

Flags of Our Fathers. It was quite fantastically done, and exactly the sobering commentary on war I was expecting, really. I want to see Letters from Iwo Jima now. 9/10

Batman Begins

Even though it's non canon it's undoubtedly the best modern batman film to come out and one of my favorites. A required viewing for any movie watcher and I love how kick ass Liam Neeson is as the villian. 9.5/10

I have to agree with your score. It was also the last movie that I have seen. The battling and all the time they took to make it. I can't believe I just watched one of the best movies in the whole entire world. Just plainly awesome. Have anyone looked at that 2008 Camaro model yet? That was absolutely it. Bumblebee was it! Not the 1960 model. Hell, I would drive that old car and still look good in it.

That was one of the biggest problems with the film, was the fact that besides being an awesome action film, it was also, sadly, a 2 hour commercial for GM.

Serenity - 9.5/10

Holy ****, why didn't I watch this sooner? Fantastic flick, creepy and thought-provoking, with stellar performances from all major cast members (especially Summer Glau). I'm going to have to watch Firefly now.

Raiders of the Lost Ark

10/10

By far my favourite of the Indy Trilogy, just everything about this film is pure gold. There is no way that Indy IV will come close to the greatness of this but I hope that it won't at least ruin the reputation of the series.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

I just returned from seeing it (all by my lonesome ). It was very well done, and I have to say I definitely preferred it to the last Potter flick, The Goblet of Fire. Strangely enough, this is the shortest Potter film to date- strange because OOTP was the longest book in the series.

Because of it's short length (2hrs and 20 min), the pacing is still a bit off, just like the last film, though it felt to me like it told it's tale better. The opening sequence of the film, with Harry being taunted by Dudley, and the subsequent arrival of the Dementors was done exceptionally well, in my opinion.

Of all the characters, Imelda Staunton, as Dolores Umbridge, was perfect, and amazingly wicked as the ministry mole sent to Hogwarts. Sadly, Gary Oldman, as Sirius Black, simply did not get enough screen time; however, what was there was fantastic.

As much as I enjoyed OOTP, I was underwhelmed by it, by no fault of the films, though. I've realized that I'm just setting my standards far too high for any of the films to meet, I suppose. The scene where Fred and George decide to leave Hogwarts was good, but it didn't excite me as much as I hoped it would, or as much as reading Rowling's description of the event did. Nevertheless, it was still a blast.

Yates does a good job of subtly foreshadowing future relationships such as Harry and Ginny's and Ron and Hermione's, by just focusing, occasionally on certain expressions, and extending certain shots to show the two future lovers interacting, particularly Ron and Hermione.

The confrontation at the ministry of magic was good, though with some of the "fat" carved off, for the obvious reason of time constraints. Watching Dumbledore and Voldemort do battle was intense and very satisfying. Two complaints though about the denoument- The conversation between Harry and Dumbledore upon returning to Hogwarts was nearly entirely cut from the film, with only a small portion making it in. I was deeply bothered by that decision because it was an important conversation that explained how, in interpreting what portion of the prophecy Voldemort heard the way he did, he created, in Harry, his own worst enemy, and equipped him with the greatest weapon he could ever have against evil.

As well, while not as crucial, Dumbledore explained to Harry how the statue in the ministry of magic, which depicted other races, such as elves and centaurs, admiring the wizards, told a great lie, and that, in fact, Wizards, historically, had been horrible and bigoted to "lesser" races, and that that fact strengthened Voldemort's forces.

If you're a fan of the Harry Potter series, this one's a no-brainer. If you've never seen any of the Harry Potter films or read any of the books, but are interested, sadly, this is not the place to start off, despite it's high entertainment value.

Depends on what you define "modern" as. It's the only modern Batman film at this point,:P. Plus, it's restarting the series so it's canon within its own universe.

Acacia

The tamest 18 (rated) film I've ever seen and a pretty bad horror film (in terms of scare factor) but I was still very entertained, bizarrely. It's probably much more accurate to call it a drama with slight horror overtones.

The thing is that the film is pretty unnerving, both of the child actors have a vacant, almost dead look on their face throughout the entire film and there's a constant uneasyness but it never actually builds to any scares. There's always a sense that something isn't right or is off but it's always "Wow, that's weird" as opposed to "Holy ****! That was freaky".

There are some great ideas in the film and the director is clearly a talented man as he uses the camera brilliantly and fully utilises the power that editing can have.

Storywise it was prett solid throughout and the ending is pretty good too. There was a moment midway through the film where the characters seemed to drastically change their personalities and it did throw me off a bit but everything is cleared up towards the end. A final loose plot point is even cleared up while the credits are rolling.

I'd recommended it, especially if you're a fan of films like A Tale of Two Sisters. Just don't watch it expecting big scares, expect a sense of foreboding throughout.

As a horror film I'd give it 2 out of 10 but as a drama I'd give it closer to 7 out of 10

The guy I was staying with over the weekend is quite the movie nut so I got quite the listings of movies.

Blazing Saddles: A Mel Brooks classic 10/10

Dracula: Dead and loving it: Mel Brooks with Leslie Nielson as Dracula. Sure it flopped in the box office but what's not to like? 9/10

Naked Gun: Police Squad: Oh sure. Leslie Nielson is too old for you teenagers to remember. But can any of you understand how a man can hurt inside? 10/10

1408: I liked it. the ending made the movie. 7/10

Borat: I never bothered to watch it out in theaters but after watching it, we went out with a camera and made our own fake documentary. 8/10

Clerks: Kevin Smith's indie classic before commiting social suicide. 10/10

Bridge to Taribithia: it was decent. Pan's Labyrinth was better. 7/10

Harry Potter: OotP: best in the movie series if I must say. 9/10
