The Boy Who Lived

...does anyone find televised political shows to be increasingly annoying these days? I find blatant political bias to be completely irritating on television, and Tucker's a complete douche. Jon Stewart's funny, but the Colbert Show seems to be killing the whole joke of mocking Republicans and Fox News.
I'm really tired of not being able to get some straight facts on what's going on in my country thanks to some political hothead whose opinion really doesn't matter a **** in the long run. Discuss. |

I find Colbert to be hilarious, personally, but he never tries to pass himself off as a serious political commentator. Instead, he's a parody of people who try to pass themselves off as serious political commentators. I suppose it can be rather hit-or-miss, but his performance at the White House Correspondents' Dinner and that smackdown he did of reporters passing off Colbert Report segments as if they were actually serious reporting are legendary.
That said, I'll agree that the level of "public" discourse in this country is lower than it's ever been. I never watch the news anymore. I just get all my news online. |

I'd argue the only reason it's becoming trite is because he manages to distill the majority of "serious" political commentary on TV to its essence and make it look ridiculous, yet people still take that garbage seriously. But to each their own.

The Daily show is good. I guess perhaps because I'm not living in your country, I can see what you mean by getting straight facts instead of satire all the time. I can only watch it for about ten minutes until my mind starts to wander. It's pretty much the same material over and over.
Bush bashing in general I think has run it's course, perhaps because he doesn't have much time left, and perhaps because he can't mess things up much more than he already has. He's a douche, I get it. I can't imagine what it's like living day to day in America under the Bush administration, but then again when all I have to go on is shows like the Daily Show I guess that explains it. It's easier I think to make light of the disaster that is Bush, but it annoys me when your soldiers are blown to pieces in Iraq, and yet all anybody seems to be able to say ( in the media ) is "Bush is an idiot". Actions really do speak louder than words in this case. He ****s up time and time again and he doesn't get so much as a slap on the wrist, why ? |

quiet you. You can talk after your country becomes fully independent from england. :P
Anywho. I like the colbert report even though at times he does the same thing that may have been done on the daily show but I like how he puts his own style into it.
