You have to admit though, it was highly unlikely that Casino Royale would turn out as good as it did. And it's even more unlikely that the same thing will work with two different franchises, especially since innovation has always been a lot more important to Star Trek than it has been to Bond.

The only Star Trek related movie/tv episode I've seen is the last movie which came out, I've forgotten the name.
The movie had a very cool starting, it reminded me a bit like Star Wars how everyone got turned to stone (i think thats what happened)

Nemesis. That was Nemesis and the Romulan superweapon ship that could destroy earth totally unseen.
I think. You know, I have to say that given the mug shots of the cast members... I could really picture a younger Kirk as Matt Damon and certainly Bones would be perfect to have as Lieutenant Dan. ('Damnit Jim I'm a doctor, not a parapalegic!') The other two certainly have the right look, but I've never seen them in anything so, yeah I dunno.

Well... As my mom and Brother(That actually watch this title more than me) I think they should have not have gone back to the beginning. It would have been cool to see something about DS9 or another TNG.... But I guess That's not gonna happen... I feel like they are grasping for straws and it is true. The series has been dying horribly since Roddenberry died....

Some info regarding the new film here:
It’s official, Star Trek is indeed a prequel. In the Times article they talk a lot about trying to avoid continuity issues, But they say that by focusing their film on the earliest adventures of Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock, they can avoid most of these perils. Since they say it’s the adventures of “Captain Kirk” that must mean the prequel will really be about Kirk’s first days in the Captain’s chair with Spock as his science officer. This could also explain some of those rumors that McCoy may not be very involved, since though Kirk and McCoy were friends long before he became a Captain, Bones didn’t join his Enterprise crew until some time after Kirk took command of the ship. In related Trek news, and Icelandic newspaper is reporting that Paramount is in their country scouting out bleak landscapes to use in shooting Star Trek.
